How very pleasant and civilised to have this bistro at the Theatre on the Bay. The service was efficient and friendly before the start of the show. The set menu has a choice of three for each course and should please most tastes. The wine list is adequate. We found our selection of dishes tasty and well presented. To be recommended... More

Our group of 4 people had eaten here before and had enjoyed it a lot. We returned last week and came away thoroughly unimpressed. Three of the party ordered the steak which on the previous occasion had been really good this time it was tough and served with undercooked potato croquettes and unidentifiable vegetables. I ordered the Lamb Shank which... More

We owe you a double apology. Firstly, for your disappointing experience, and secondly, for taking so long to respond. Did you bring the shortcomings to the manager's attention on the night? There isn't any part of incorrectly prepared food, or wrong drinks, or tough steak that is acceptable to us, and it should have been dealt with appropriately on the... More

A pleasant accompaniment to the most enjoyable shows at The Theatre on the Bay! Enjoy a couple of courses before the show, and dessert and coffee during the interval. A la carte, or the set-price 3 courses, with a small selection of starters, mains and desserts. Standard fare, lamb shank, steak, fish, vegetarian pasta, as main courses, but well presented,... More

I booked a table for seven of us before a show, expecting ordinary fare. What a pleasant surprise. The food was great, excellent service, everything arrived on time and the staff bent over backwards to get the timing right for two late arrivals. It is a super venue for a meal out regardless of the theatre, as has nice sea... More

This restaurant is a must if you are planning on watching a show at the theatre. Although the menu is limited, the food is very good and the service excellent - all at quite reasonable prices. You can also relax, knowing that you will be able to finish your meal before the show starts.

A great way to start an evening at the theatre. A simple multiple choice menu for a 3 course meal in a very roomy and friendly bistro above the Theatre on the Bay. Service was a little slow but the staff were very willing and enthusiastic. Good wholesome food at very reasonable prices for Cape Town.

The Side Dish Bistro is on the first floor in the Theatre on the Bay building. The menu allows a selection from about three each of starters, main course and dessert, plus specials on the day. The choices cater for most tastes. We all enjoyed our selections, the beef and the grilled Norwegian Salmon were particularly good. Service was efficient... More

What a wonderful place! We booked dinner for two before the play. It is in the same building. My seared tuna was perfectly prepared, but a little bland. The salads and desserts were wonderful. Great service. The night we were there the crowd was rather raucous. Parking can be a bit difficult, so arriving early can help.
