Description: Since 2002 hundreds of coffee devotees have trooped through the Lemon Tree...
Since 2002 hundreds of coffee devotees have trooped through the Lemon Tree doors every day to enjoy the amazing cappuccino. For the second time in three years a survey of around 350 restaurants in KwaZulu-Natal rated LEMON TREE’s cappuccino one of the province’s 20 BEST. This accolade was achieved in the definitive 2010/11 and 2012/13 Sunday Tribune Cafe Society Awards. The international hospitality monitor, TripAdvisor recognised Lemon Tree Bistro with its 2013 Certificate of Excellence. This prestigious award places the restaurant in the top-performing 10% of all businesses worldwide on TripAdvisor, and indicates businesses that consistently earn high ratings from TripAdvisor travellers. The hospitality and catering team, guided by owners Huck and Elsabe Orban, has taken what was essentially a coffee shop with a Continental slant to the level where it is one of the best recognised country restaurants in South Africa. Not only is it listed on several international country travel guides as a "Must Visit!" - amongst which the popular Lonely Planet - but it also serves as destination for both foodies and coffee aficionados. Its easy-dining, bistro menu to which special features like Venison Pie, de-boned Rainbow Trout, the incomparable Kudu Fillet and the famous pistachio-crusted Lamb Cutlets have been added, ensures that everyone's taste from essential to eclectic, is catered for. Besides the crisp croissants, baked on the premises every day, the Lemon Tree will serve you the most memorable Prawn Pasta, Prego Roll and hand crafted Toasted Sandwich you have ever had. Finish that off with the oh-so-moreish Beetroot Cake and a cappuccino and you'll be back for more.... time and again. When you walk through the door you enter the Lemon Tree's wonderful world of goodies... an interesting selection of books - both old and new, a range of branded and house coffees, brewing and cookery requisites and a deli filled with a delightful range of wines, imported biscuits, chocolates, jams and condiments. See you there...

Wow, Bev! To get a 5-star review from a seasoned and well-traveled TripAdvisor reviewer like you is a massive compliment. Thank you. I'm so glad your husband asked for the red cappy. You would have noticed that our manageress, MaryJane was new to her job and the request had her totally flummoxed. But then our little Barista, Grace seems to... More

We have been there for dinner, after a long drive. It was a real surprise for us to find such a nice and stylisch bistro in Underberg. We felt warmly welcomed by the staff and the men of the house. The food was excellent (try the kudu!) and service was great too. The athmosphere was very chilled. You can also... More

We were camping in Underberg and were hit with a rather cold weekend of rain and mist. So to escape the cold, we went to Lemon Tree Bistro for a deep, delicious bowl of creamy onion soup. The soup was amazing, the service was good although I suspect the waitress may have been affected by the gloomy weather or perhaps,... More

Thanks Tanyads for your review of our restaurant. We like to cook our soup slow, let the flavours and the textures infuse. We call it SOUP FOR THE SOUL. And our regulars drive a lonng way for their brownies. We're overjoyed that you discovered the pleasures of both. Our managers have taken to watching Hell's Kitchen and as a consequence... More

As soon as you walk in you are hit with a strong antiseptic odour which I think is meant to be lemon. Breakfast is average and coffee better than some. Owner friendly to the locals but cold with tourists. They need to speak to thier staff kindly....left me with a bad taste from food and atmosphere.

This does have great coffee just like you read about although I'm not sure it's the best I've ever had. The Eggs Benedict and Forele are a winner though.
