An outstanding meal with really good service. Very innovative menu and whatever we chose was superb. Leave space for dessert ... They were exceptional.

Lamb underdone, boring presentation on all meals, pork overdone and not appetising. Sauces too strong and salty. Blasting aircon made us cough and our food cold. Service non existent after an hour, plates left on table until I thought of taking them through myself. Some other staff member took them away. No management presence. We left without dessert, just wanted... More

Gorgeous meatball starters followed by a delicious prawn pasta - still one of the top restaurants in Durban eventhough my Mom's lambshank was underdone (tough as boots as my Mom said!) - it had to be sent back - but sometimes restaurants are not always in top form on a Monday evening especially if the owners are not there!

This is an old favourite of mine. You have to try the Calamata olives, stuffed with ricotta, crumbed, deep-fried and served with chilli herb mayo. They are delicious! I like to order a large bowl as we sit. They seldom last more that 4 minutes. For starter there is only one real option in my humble opinion, its the Turkish... More

Cafe 1999 has been a long standing favourite of mine, since 1999 in fact. Marcelle is talented chef who knows how to build on the flavour of Durban ingredients while Sean and Mo are passionate about wine and have an excellent understanding of pairing their recommendations to the food. I never chose from the menu and always opt for the... More

Wow, okay now the restaurant is by no means cheap. It is also in a pretty random location with little to no off-street parking but that they can't really control. What they can control, the food, the simplicity of the decor, the menu, the knowledgeable waiting staff were all excellent. It is a place that I shall re-visit, and if... More

Had an awesome dinner here last night with the family! Hands down the best mussels and dark chocolate creme brûlée! Asked them to move to Joburg but alas! Keep it up Cafe 99!

Had a business lunch recently. The food, service and wine recommendations were as reliable as ever. We kept it simple and had a salad and starter platter. The Rocket, baby spinach, Parmesan shavings, tossed with lemon and olive oil and avocado salad was fresh and tasty. We ordered the lunch tasting board special which was absolutely delicious - a combination... More

I had eaten at Cafe 99 a few years back and when my colleagues asked where a good place to go for a conference-closer, I suggested here. I remembered the food being fantastic and the vibe being lively. 13 of us arrived at 7pm and we had had an absolutely glorious evening. The service was fantastic. We were given complimentary... More
