I took my friend from Lesotho, Ntombi to Vilakazi Street in Soweto. Vilakazi Street is famous for having 2 Nobel prize winners - the late Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. You can take a stroll down Vilakazi Street where there are a number of activities to engage in like: - The Mandela House Museum - Curio African artifacts stands... More

Excellent self service. Local soul food. Well worth trying when visiting Soweto. I even tried the Hudu.

situated in famous Vilakasi street close to nelson Mandela museum this traditional African restaurant offers a wonderful selection of traditionally prepared food. The staff are friendly and helpful. A safe for tourists to visit to get a feel of Soweto. We were there on a Saturday afternoon and the street life outside was buzzing ahead of a springbok/new Zealand rugby... More

No visit to Soweto is complete without visiting two places there - The house of Nelson Mandela and Sakhumzi Restaurant on Vilakazi Street. We stopped here for beer and food after a long day sightseeing. The food is mostly barbecue and it's good value for money. The best part is the athmosphere: music, people dancing, the expensive cars passing by showing off and the easyness to meet people.

The atmosphere is viby. Sitting outside and observe all the goings on while enjoying your meal. Large variety of buffet dishes to choose from.

Right in heart of Soweto, this place seems to be the place to be, as it was packed when my tour group got here. The food is average, it's served buffet style and there is chicken, other meats, mashed potatoes, vegetables, and pudding. However, the experience is unique, as I felt I was really like a local there (even though... More

Very convenient and your tour bus is likely to stop here. We paid 120 rand for a buffet meal compared to half that price in up market Jo'burg. The food is buffet so kept hot for long periods and one worries about hygiene. Choice of chicken, mutton, tripe and veg dishes. Pudding was really just ice cream, jelly or sponge.... More

The atmosphere here on a weekend night tastes even better than the food - which is African and good (but don't expect anything fancy). The place, just a short walk from the Mandela house, is crowded and lively. Yes, it's touristy but not too many tour buses yet. They can't park in front, anyway, because the street's too busy and... When we left Madikwe and arrived Johanessburg we travelled by bus to Sowetto to this amazing restaurant before visiting Mandela's House and the Hector Pieterson museum. As there were 40 of us we were allocated tables outside and a waiter took our drinks order right away. The sun was shining and very hot but a great atmosphere. We had the... More
