The best place for kids in Newlands - with a popular outdoor gym for them (not so good if it is raining). Nice fires inside in winter. Simple menu, large portions. Not haute-cuisine, but filling and reasonable value. Great beers. Service a bit harried

We continue to go back to Forries because we love the ambiance outside under the trees and we live in the area. Since the new kitchen opened about 6 months ago the food has def improved and is a level above that of most pubs. Meals well presented and the decent size helpings are fairly priced. Best deals are daily... More

Service is fast and the pizza is tasty with a thin crust. Large selection of beer. Good for watching sport. Nice outside section. Can get very busy. Book a table if you are a large group.

This is a pub - and not a fine dining restaurant, so don't go there with said expectations. The craft beer and pub meals are great - expect to pay between R80 and R150 for a meal.

I went to Varisty in 70's in UCT and 'Forries' was a fav wateringhole. Fantastic venue with outside seating in good weather and plenty space with fireplace inside. Since returning to CT 4 yrs ago, I go back from time to time to watch a rugby match or similar. Has great atmoshere and lots of screens etc. They have recently... More

Had a marvellous lunch in the courtyard, great setting and good service, this place has been on the map for many years and does not disappoint on each visit. Used to be a watering hole for the cricket fraternity from New lands.

Big menu, good beer and great service. Outdoor seating area had lots of space and the kingklip was very tasty. Good buzz.

Do yourself a favour and have a go at the Steak and ale pie, you won't regret it. Lovely setting, good service, could do with a better selection of beer on tap though.

My friend came here 45 years ago, and raved about it ever since, so we had to try it! Wonderful experience, beautiful setting in the covered courtyard, cozy intimate little dining nooks... I was delighted. We had the ribs which were delicious, as well as the Mediterranean steak, which was cooked perfectly. A legend of a place, and so nice... More

We went for an extended family lunch. The first dishes took over an hour to arrive after ordering and the last over 20 minutes later. We had to fetch our own drinks from the bar as the waiter was nowhere to be seen. All pizzas had a soggy base although they looked OK from a distance. The prawns on my... More
