Parreirinha is a favourite restaurant of mines. I always end up coming back to this wonderful restaurant in the South of Johannesburg. This restaurant has what a lot of new fancy restaurants in Johannesburg lack and thats character. It is unique in location and decoration, ties hanging from the roof racks. The food is exceptional, and prawns and chicken is... More

Despite management's attempt to convey that they serve "Mamma's" recipes they have strayed too far from just plain wholesome food. We order the asparagus starter in garlic butter sauce were presented with canned asparagus in a yellow watery sop. They did not have prawn cakes or prawn curry (because the Mozambiquean delivery was late, apparently) but could serve normal prawns... More

Although we South Africans call it Portuguese food its really the food of Mozambique as made buy the Portuguese settlers, hot spicy interpretations of their homelands cuisine and Parreirinha has been doing it proud for years. Great food quirky atmosphere and good service.

We got off the plane and my brother took us to the deep south for lunch. It helps to be with an experienced Jhb local, since there is not much around that gives you a clue to the possibility of one of Jhb's best kept secrets hidden in the run down, rusty neighbourhood. We were very early for lunch, and... More

Although the area this restaurant is located in is not great, it was well worth a visit! The service is good, the portion sizes are generous, the food arrived quickly and the vibe was lovely. Portuguese music lightens up the atmosphere and there is a proper smoking section if need be.

Parreirinha has been on my list of must get to Johannesburg restaurants for years, it is set in a historic old building in a part of town that takes some planning to get to. The vibrant interior is in complete contrast to the plain street outside. I used Uber to get to and from the restaurant and would recommend this... More

This is a fantastic Tasca located in one of Johannesburg's more rundown downtown neighbourhoods, set in an edgy street setting with on street parking (for anyone that doesn't know Johannesburg this means that it is genuinely a street, which is highly unusual). As expected for a Tasca it serves simple fresh food in a Portuguese and colonial Portuguese style -... More

We have been going to this restaurant at least three times a year for the last 4 years and never disappoints. Food is always delicious especially the prawns but the vibe is really what makes the restaurant. Always alive with people, great place for celebratory dinners.
