It is not in the most attractive part of Sandton and parking is always a nightmare but once you're inside this place is brilliant. The decor is rustic but tasteful, the service really good, the wine( and French champagne) list brilliant and the food is very, very good. I had fresh salmon tartare to start and prawn pasta for main-... More

Take here by a colleague fro dinner whilst in Jozy on a business trip. I had eaten here a number of years ago and the memory was still true. Good food well presented and good service. Having made a choice from the menu the chef emerged and told us the specials - this changed our minds and it was well... More

We went to Thomas Maxwell for a birthday celebration. We had reasonably high expectations from what we had heard from other people and it didn't disappoint!! The whole ambiance was fantastic! It's a cute place, with interesting decor that adds to the whole bistro atmosphere. The service was very friendly, and we enjoyed the personal attention of the manager in... More

We were invited to Thomas Maxwell by friends. As we had read a lot about them we were excited about seeing what they were all about. Well what a let down!! The managers/chefs wandered around in their chef whites, when they did come over to inform us of the specials it was like a primary school kid reciting it in... More

Is it possible to be over serviced? If so, then this place is just that. The place is amazing. Good vibe. Great food. But I wasn't left alone for one second. However, I would go back any day.

Went for a very late dinner with business partners. Kitchen was closing but the chef prepared a meal of his choice for us. Can say it was some of the best food i've had in South Africa, wine was excellent and service was friendly (they politely asked us to leave after all other customer were long gone).

We were looking forward to something special for our Good friend's birthday, which was booked well in advance and asked for something special to be presented. ...all 6 of us were not impressed with the food as starters ,fried camembert ,tasted of old oil...The salad was not dressed. ..not something you would expect. Mains were bland and flavourless. ..and desert... More

We are from a small village near Cape Town called Riebeek Kasteel so the big city can be daunting at times. the restaurant was recommended by a friend who lives in Jhb and who claimed that this was the best restaurant in Jozi. It is located on the outskirts of the Sandton CBD on a very ordinary strip of restaurants,... More

Went for business lunch and this is what we had. Correct service, good southafrican wine and more than decent food, looked like we were in Barcelona, except for the language

I love this spot and still had a fantastic meal with excellent service with chef attendance. However it now feels commercial with plenty of work dinners at other tables and the bill was disproportionatly high ... their prices have gone up considerbly over the last year. Would recommend if someone else is footing the bill!
