In the 1930s, a man with the unlikely name of Johnny Walker built a bar called the Cave Creek Corral. Walker’s creation was an instant sensation with cowboys, playboys, politicians and laborers who gathered to drink A-1 beers at wooden tables under wanted posters.Harold Gavagan and his wife Ruth bought the Cave Creek Corral in the mid 1950s. Harold was quite a character, a depression-era Irish kid, a tough, but entertaining guy. Harold’s was a favorite movie location for Hollywood, attracting the likes of Dan Aykroyd, Bob Hope, Lynda Carter, Waylon Jennings and Dick Van Dyke. Cave Creek was not a short easy ride from Phoenix, in an effort to get visitors to Cave Creek, Harold acquired a trained lion and tiger act to entertain patrons.Once visitors were at Harold’s, he was concerned that they didn’t drink and stay long enough. So the building to the east of the restaurant became a bunkhouse, renting space for over night visitors.celebrities. Enjoy the fun atmosphere, interesting people and great food every day. We feature live country and western music Thursday-Sunday nights.Take a few minutes to browse the photographs on the walls of the characters and friends that frequent Harold’s. Lots of fun and will return!!

We were there for the big 4th of July fireworks display! We had reservations (necessary) for about 20 of us up on the deck under the misters. Considering our large group and how busy it was, our service was really quick!! The food was okay, your typical bar fare.

Every Sunday during football season Harold's is a hangout for displaced Steeler fans living in Arizona. Game day drink specials, music, big screen TV's, outdoor seating with televisions. Pre game breakfast buffet is always quick and easy. The menu includes several great options and the food is always good. Reservations are recommended especially on Sunday. Great place year round!

We reside in carefree and have only a modest "Eat out" budget... So HAROLD's is our place of choice! It's a "What you see, is what you get kinda place", but that's GOOD! ... Good Food, Great Bar, Casual atmosphere, Fair prices, and the BEST "Happy Hour" in town! We recommend Harold's to all of our out of town guests... More

Great food, good variety, great place to watch ball games, dance, grab a drink...we never miss a chance to take out of town visitors to Harold's and tell them what it was like in "the old days".

If people from elsewhere have never heard of Cave Creek, the next thing heard is you "must" go to Harold's ! It's huge inside and there are times you can't find a seat. Usually good country music and decent food. Most people mosey between here and The Buffalo Chip right next door. Some ride their horse to both bars. Most... More

What a fun evening for family or singles! Cave Creek is a Western town, so Harold's has a large saloon-type atmosphere. Friday night dinner specials were very reasonable. All You Can Eat Fish and Chips ($11.99) excellent. Cod was thick and flaky, cole slaw and fries. Chicken tacos also excellent off regular menu ($9.99). Happy Hour prices phenomenal! Beer--$1.75; well... More

An expansive, eclectic menu with something for everyone/ Large portions at a very good price. Terrific BBQ. The beef ribs are world class. This is our go to spot for great value, casual dining, we live nearby and have been many times!

I recently went back to Harolds and am pleased to report that the previous service issues have been rectified. I've had good food and good service, without a hint of the disasters of the past. It probably helps that the husband and wife owners are right there keeping a close eye on things, and cheerily greeting the many locals that... More
