In the 1930s, a man with the unlikely name of Johnny Walker built a bar called the Cave Creek Corral. Walker’s creation was an instant sensation with cowboys, playboys, politicians and laborers who gathered to drink A-1 beers at wooden tables under wanted posters.Harold Gavagan and his wife Ruth bought the Cave Creek Corral in the mid 1950s. Harold was quite a character, a depression-era Irish kid, a tough, but entertaining guy. Harold’s was a favorite movie location for Hollywood, attracting the likes of Dan Aykroyd, Bob Hope, Lynda Carter, Waylon Jennings and Dick Van Dyke. Cave Creek was not a short easy ride from Phoenix, in an effort to get visitors to Cave Creek, Harold acquired a trained lion and tiger act to entertain patrons.Once visitors were at Harold’s, he was concerned that they didn’t drink and stay long enough. So the building to the east of the restaurant became a bunkhouse, renting space for over night visitors.celebrities. Enjoy the fun atmosphere, interesting people and great food every day. Good barbeque in a fun atmosphere

We had lunch here and enjoyed the wild west décor. Our barbeque sandwich and reuben sandwich were good. The service was good. We would come back.

Our stop to Arizonia is never complete unless we spend some time at Harolds. The happy hour is great and i really enjoyed the chicken wings and ribs. The live entertainment and the atmosphere is true Western.

This was our second visit to this lively, variety of food offering restaurant! We had stumbled upon it last year after hiking McDowell preserve. It looks like a place out of the Wild West. Saloon with locals as friendly as they come. It was crowded so there was a very short wait for a table. The restaurant knows how to... More

While vacationing in the area, we stopped in for dinner. They were completely jammed and asked if we had a reservation, we replied no. Quickly, they scurried to find a table to squeeze us in. My husband and I both enjoyed a great prime rib dinner for an extremely reasonable check.

After horseback riding at Cave Creek Park we headed to Harold's for lunch. It is a biker, yuppie, Minnesota tourist,Carefree regulars, Pittsburg Steeler bar/restaurant serving passable Americana. They have a large bar area where we watched two gray hairs trying to impress a somewhat younger woman in a flannel shirt. The table next to us were 2 Harley riding couples... More

Came for drinks and dancing last night. No cover charge. Excellent band: Mogollon. The folks here are clearly local and man, can they dance! If you follow these reviews the focus is on the food, which I'm sure is good. But I think the place would more accurately appear under things to do.... perhaps there should be a new category... The service was great, waited a bit due to being busy. Waiter took our orders and food came out quickly. I ordered the Street Chicken Taco and it was awesome. It is a wild west saloon and restaurant, pretty cool! I liked the hole package, good food, good service, good atmosphere. I would absolutely go back and I recommend this... More

It's a really big place, we were there on a not so busy night, I've heard it gets packed and a little rowdy on busier weekend nights. the menu is the basic freezer truck stuff, nothing real special or fresh, that's the reason I can't rate it higher. But what we had was fine, it was what we were craving... More

Hi Angie, Thank you for your review we use reviews to improve what we do. As far as basic freezer truck stuff though I believe you are mistaken, there are only a few hings that are not hand made or bought frozen and that is our french fries, onion rings and mac and cheese bites. We do have some great... More

This "saloon" was built in 1936 as the Cave Creek Coral. It is one of Cave Creek's oldest buildings. A couple of other old buildings have been moved here and attached to make a pretty large reataurant. Local favorite and Pittsburg Steelers football hangout. Breakfasts are large and good. Burgers and sandwiches are good, too, and the chopped salad entre... More

Stopped for lunch and it was delicious! They had a special game day menu! Jumbo shrimp, fish and chips and salad so good! The white fish was awesome! Home made cocktail sauce had lots of horse radish in it. Ddefinately try the chicken wings! Had Blue Moon beer and margaritas. This is a great stop for watching a football game... More
