It is 17 miles east of Benson and about 40 miles east of Tucson on Interstate 10 (Exit 322). Look around the spacious gift shop and purchase a few gifts, a couple of pieces of Indian Handmade or gold jewelry, some pottery, or one of the many other items available at this location. Do your shopping before you tour the museum and look for The Thing. Because afterwards you will probably want to compose yourself and just sit awhile sipping a cold soda or try to calm your nerves by scarfing up an Ultimate Burger or shoveling down a cold DQ Blizzard at the Dairy Queen located right next door. This location also offers self-serve Shell fuel with 24 hr. Pay at the pump service.

Fun stop if you are looking for cheesy

We stopped in on a road trip after reading about it online. It is exactly as advertised, a funny cheesy tourist stop. We got a bunch of pictures and a couple funny cheesy souvenirs and it was a fun $1 spent. If you expect what they advertise you won't be disappointed.

Crappy dusty souvenirs, lots of plastic indian dolls, dirty bathrooms. DQ server was rude - she did not want to be at work that day, poor thing. An ugly nasty truckstop.

It is a road-side tourist trap reminiscent of the old "Freak Shows". Totally worth the money. Which is 2 bucks, so you aren't out anything. The gift shop there is GRRRRREAT! LOTS of souvenirs and unlike most tourist stops, VERY reasonably priced.

We didn't go in to see what the "Thing" was really all about, just stopped for a bathroom break and refreshments.

You've got to see it! The mystery of the desert. As good as a buck can be spent. Shocking... Spellbinding... Pleasant dreams!

The Thing is a southern AZ landmark that should be on your list to do at least once. Admittedly, it's cheesy and hokey, but good wholesome fun. And you can get some DQ treats at the same time!

Saw the signs all the way from las cruces and let them draw us in when we finally reached the roadside attraction. Ok, this isnt the Smithsonian, but it will break up your drive to Tuscon. The thing is as shown on other searches, a sort of mummy that is well, i dunno, you tell me. Enjoy the mystery!

We simply stopped for a Dairy Queen. Clean and friendly. There was a nice selection of jewelry in the adjacent gift shop and the staff were friendly. Gas was higher than off the highway but this is to be expected. Did not pay to see the thing. Would not pay to see anyone's thing as a matter of fact.

Hitler At Bowlins? You’ve Got To Be Pulling My Leg! We stopped at the four Bowlins stores on I-10 in New Mexico. They advertised “The Thing” at exit 322 in Arizona. As a lead up at the Butterfield Stage stop on the way from Deming to Lordsburg they had a mannequin in an old car. It was supposed to be... More

When Traveling down I 10 into Willcox there are many billboards advertising, "The Thing" You can get gas, visit Dairy Queen, and buy reasonable trinkets and t-shirts. You can pay a small fee to see "The Thing". Not worth the small fee to see, but you should see it once. What is it? I will let you see it for... More
