There was three of us for lunch. None of our meals were good. The salad was limp with shrivelled pieces of leaves in it, the duck fat home cut chips were soggy and greasy. The Asian prawn noodle salad was dry and tasteless. The prawns had been cooked in butter with no flavour whatsoever, the seafood chowder was disappointingly bland,... More

Just had Sunday lunch at Speights Ale House, it was about 1.15pm when we ordered 4 adult and 1 childs meal. 2.20 when 2 ribeye steaks came out, said we had ordered only 1, plus 2 chicken burgers, a lamb burger and a childs fish and chips. When they returned about 5 minutes later, they still had 2 ribeye's, said... More

We visited on a Sunday lunchtime (1:30ish) and were easily able to get a table inside, despite there being two large parties seated outside. Our server was very friendly and welcoming. Good variety of food on the lunch menu although there was only one vegetarian option. The meals arrived together after about a 20 minute wait and portion sizes were... More

Thanks for your review from our Sunday lunch. We really appreciate the positive feedback and I will pass it on to our team. We also have a wonderful small plate menu which serves for a lighter style lunch and very good value. All the best Nigel More

I think we must have caught Sleights on a bad day. We ate mid-afternoon on New Years Eve. I had the steak which was OK. But the Chicken Burger was pretty bad and was the worst my wife had ever had. I think they might have ran out of the correct Chicken breast and replaced it with over-fried Chicken Schnitzel.... More

Hi Snakebite Thanks for taking your time to review us. I do apologise if our food wasn't up to it's usual standard as our kitchen staff work very hard on getting it right. I do believe on this occasion the kitchen had made your wife's crispy chicken to order and had over spiced it and I do apologise for this.... More

Very busy due to block booking in upstairs restaurant. Fairly average meal for the cost. Resources were devoted to the large number of per booked guests

Hi Thank you for your review. Admittedly Christmas is a busy time for us with large Christmas parties, however this shouldn't impact on the service and quality of our meals. As I don't have any record of a complaint on this day, please feel free to ring and discuss. Kind Regards Nigel Bowen 036866030/0276221111 More

Delicious meals washed down with New Zealand's best beers all in a historic setting of Timaru's oldest building. Must be the best place in town to get something to eat and get a drink.
