Worthy of a visit.

I always enjoy visiting this restaurant although at times it can be rather busy and quite noisy. If you want to be seated in the dining area it pays to book a table as these can fill up quickly. The food is usually a good standard, quite large portions and there are many selections but its not what... read more

I took 5 teenage girls there for snacks and drinks after swimming and was encouraged to order the large platter. The food was great but it didn't even go close to feeding everybody. When I complained I was offered 15% off the bill for the food - which equated to $8 - I spent a further $25 feeding the girls.... More

The Speight's Ale House, in Ashburton, is a great place to catch-up with friends over a drink and a few snacks. But as a a place to find healthy food options, it's a coronary by-pass! The meals are huge, high in fat content and smothered in a range of commercially prepared sauces and dressings. Fresh fish, with a smoked salmon... More

45 minute wait with no soup, kids pasta and sausages and mash in sight- too long. Very disappointed. We would have gone elsewhere if we had been told on seating that we were looking at over an hour wait.

Plenty of options and always a good feed. The large seafood chowder is fantastic value for money. Staff are friendly. Depending on occasion you can either sit in theresurant or bar area. They have settea times on the weekend which is a great idea so you don't ave to wit for other tables to be finished. Would recomend booking a... More

Great service and very good meal. Only problems are that it is rather noisy and they have set dining times which are not necessarily suitable for many people. Otherwise very good.

terrible staff who did not even answer me when I said the food was awful.A waste of time and money. I would never go back. Speights in Timaru is amazing so the local was very disappointing

Good Meals & drinks, but very slow service from wait staff, to the point that they served 2 tables that had seated after us before coming back to take our orders which in turn meant our meals came out later as well, meant we had to have another beer...

Went here for dinner twice. Nice cosy atmosphere. Had chicken filo, steak sandwich, pork snitzel and lamb shanks. Was all pretty good except the pork! We classify it as good pub grub. The beers are better than the food!
