We headed out to find a meal in Ohakune and this was the first restaurant we found that was open. But thrilled we stumbled across it. Kids (6.5 and 8 years) devoured their meals from the kids menu - ham and pineapple pizza and a cheeseburger. We even were able to take the left over pizza home. Our meals were... More

Expensive for what it is and we had to wait an hour for our meals. The others in my group were happy with their food but my prawn pasta was just so so and I wished I hadn't wasted money on it.

We really enjoyed our dinner at Powderkeg, the staff is very nice and friendly, the food was really good and the wine selection is pretty descent.

In Ohakune for the Tongariro Crossing, we found evening dining options to pretty much this place. We had a pair of fine dinners as described in the title that went like this: The Powerkeg is a restaurant/bar in the Powderhorn Lodge. I usually avoid restaurants in hotels, but options in Ohakune were limited to pretty much this place. There is... More

Travelled down for the Goat and decided toe at here after registration. Menu looked interesting but food mediocre. Group of 4 eating and underwhelmed. Husband sent pasta back x1 as was cool and could have sent back again but decided couldn't be bothered. Wouldn't return for the food, good beer list to try though and nice decor/environment

Were staying at hotel off season as result of terrible weather so we went down for drink and meal. Bar is anchored by big central fireplace which was helping on a cold wet day. The restaurant was very quiet and I was worried that we would get poor quality meals. I had the lamb shanks in red wine lentil jus... More

Had a good meal at the Powderkeg My first time and the restaurant was quiet so service was very attentive. I chose the Angus rib-eye woth portobello mushropms and was definately not disappointed. My cousin had the King Salmon and he to was happy too. Generous portions without being too hearty. Recommend you order couple of sides especially if you... More

We tried to work our way through the beer's but will have to come back. Happy we got lots of skiing in to work off the pizza, nachos and big breakfasts we kept eating. Great to find a place that offers so much without having to go anywhere else, food far better quality than anywhere else in town we tried... More

The menu is extensive and caters to all tastes, we kept seeing ribs and nachos going out but we loved the grilled salmon, the holoumi entree and the roast veges the most for dinner and the eggs Benedict for breakfast was consistently delicious washed down with a strong coffee. Upstairs was probably out favourite though because the setting is so... More
