Its pretty obvious why this place is such an institution, the food, atmosphere and friendliness of the place is hard to beat. The price and size of the food satisfied our group some just had starters and others two courses which were served in good time and we ended the night with pool and beers. Looking forward to coming back... More

Wonderful generous portion sizing and the most delicious and attractive food! The menu and wine list is fantastic as there is so much variety. I ordered the smoked salmon and a side of miso greens and both were absolutely divine. The dessert is amazing too- you can tell that the restaurant prides itself on using the best quality ingredients possible.... More

Located in the gorgeous Powderhorn hotel - this restaurant is equally cosy and well-presented if not slightly more casual. An hilarious chalkboard details the Golden Rules of the restaurant, incl. Dancing on tables allowed, however clothes to be kept on!! Perhaps more of a backpackers' brew during the ski season, the diners were thankfully quiet and of an older generation... More

A group of us was staying in Ohakune prior to tackling the five day, Mountain to Sea bike trail. The operator suggested Powderkeg: 'always reliable' was his comment. he was correct. Eight of us had very, very good meals. One other person and I each chose the Pork and Fennel Sausage Pizza. At $22.50 the large, laden pizza was filling,... More

It was the only place open in Ohakune after 8 pm. The food was well prepared with a decent price and good service and in an attractive setting.

I was so happy with the whole dining experience from extremely friendly staff to delicious food. My Asian noodle were full of flavour and were served in a timely manner. My evening meal was so good I went for round two in the morning for a great eggs Benedictt and such good value.

We headed out to find a meal in Ohakune and this was the first restaurant we found that was open. But thrilled we stumbled across it. Kids (6.5 and 8 years) devoured their meals from the kids menu - ham and pineapple pizza and a cheeseburger. We even were able to take the left over pizza home. Our meals were... More

Expensive for what it is and we had to wait an hour for our meals. The others in my group were happy with their food but my prawn pasta was just so so and I wished I hadn't wasted money on it.
