Great market

I would always come here when I visit. My aunts like to take me here because it has many of the things we need in one convenient location in a pretty compact area. My favorite place to eat in this market is the "banh canh" and my favorite food here is "banh canh ngot" (sorry about any incorrect... read more

This is a very basic, somewhat dingy market - with the typical fruit, fish, meat, clothing, fabrics etc. worth a browse through as there is always something to see - and there isn't much else in town!

We loved this market for the variety and smells and the friendliness of the people. It is a photographers delight, to meander the stalls, checking the enormous variety of herbs, fruits and fresh fish. There are frogs, different meats, fish pastes and live ducks. It is the place where all the locals do their shopping , not a tourist market.... More

Standard market. Interesting for those who have not seen or are in need of purchasing items. Consider visiting floating markets on the river.

Chau doc market just a tiny market and nothing to buy, everything here is overprice and the owner of shop in this market is not friendly when you bargain the goods, I don't want to come this market again.

A great Vietnamese market without the pushy vendors so common elsewhere in Vietnam. Chau Doc is not really on the tourist map yet so a visitor still gets lots of smiles and "hellos". Good place to stock up on fruit for your boat trip to Phnom Penh or Vietnam.

Chau Doc Market, located near the center of town, sells a variety of specialty goods, market divided into separate zones but striking is the “mam” sold by the seductive aroma , a hundred kind of “mam” in this market, you can say “mam” have the bad smell but it very good when you taste Take a round market, comparable items... Great for pics - unusual foods, great characters - all keen to see their photos! It was all locals when we went - no westerners - so you may struggle to find something you need? Very few speak any non-Vietnamese. Great for people watching and sampling the smells and flavours...

We walked thru this market and enjoyed it because the sellers weren't pushy like many of the other markets we had visited (especially in Ho Chi Minh). I will also add that you could tell you were a little off the beaten path since most of the sellers did not speak English at all or very little.

After spending time in larger cities in SE Asia, Chau Doc is a refreshing change, with a local, small-town vibe. The market was great to wander around for an hour or so and all the sellers were really friendly: always waving and saying hello. There is a bit of staring at travellers, but don't be put off!!! Just smile and... More
