Fabulous view

The name Long Rifle Lodge is misleading as the long rifle disappeared a few years ago and left a bear standing on the roof on its own but what a cute place. The name 'lodge' was just what I would expect from a 'lodge', excellent mounted animals everywhere, log tables and chairs, good service, fine... read more

It is about mile post 100, whereas Palmer is mile post 50. Food and drink is average. Service friendly. It is a small place, but an excellent place to sit and view the Matanuska-Glacier.

I use the internet in detail before each trip. We had stopped at the restaurant on a past trip. But could not find much about their rooms on the web. So we stopped in and asked to see a room. They had two choices in room size and price. We looked at both and chose the more expensive room. Price... More

We stumbled across this place as we were on route from Glenallen to Anchorage. It was a truely wonderful find with fantastic food, friendly staff and a view to die for. We would travel this road again just so we could stop here.

You'll discover a great rustic Alaska dining atmosphere with beautiful views of the Matanuska Glacier. Several Alaska animals on display.

The lodge looks a little rustic from the outside, but inside was a beautiful restaurant. They have a large display of animals (it is a hunting lodge) with a very nice lodge look and feel. The view of the glacier and mountains was just gorgeous. The food offerings were typical for a lodge. The quality of our dinners were very... More

We visited the Matanuska Glacier and had dinner here after hiking the glacier. The food is excellent and reasonable. The view of the glacier and valley is simply fantastic.

If you are looking for a restaurant where you can have great views of Matanuska Glacier, this is probably the only one. We came here after our hike on the glacier, recommended by our guide. She did tell us that the food here is nice, but not the best. I had a sandwich with soup, others had hamburgers, etc, but... More

This review is for the lodge and not the restaurant. We stayed at the lodge for one night during our visit to the glacier. We were thrilled to have such an amazing view of the glacier from our room! It was a small room with a toilet, sink and shared shower. It had a microwave. It was not one of... More

Following a tiring, exhausting, yet exciting and energizing trek on the glacier in fog, mist, and drizzle, this restaurant felt like coming home to relax and eat. We went for a 11.30 am 3 hour trekking on the glacier with MICA guides (reviewed separately). We were starving following the trek as it was 4 pm with only a small breakfast... More
