* Healthy Hearty Alaskan Cuisine focusing on Local and Organic ingredients since 1982* The original owners are back and 2014 will be the best year ever with some new menu items and a fresh juice bar. At the Fresh Sourdough Express, we offer food that is both good for you and the planet. Since 1982 we have strived to serve as much organic and local food as possible. We are elated to see that more eateries everywhere are also striving to do the same. Buying local helps to build the local economy and assures freshness in all that we prepare. We believe that the food we consume directly affects our health and the health of the plant. We strive to be a zero waste facility by composting all of our food scraps, recycling everything possible, and implement energy efficient appliances and practices into our establishment. We also believe that customer service makes all the difference in your experience while you dine. It is our honor and intention to serve our customers in a manner that is welcoming and enjoyable. We serve our popular breakfast items all day, hearty lunches, seasonal daily specials, to-go meals, box lunches, daily baked goodies including gluten free options, smoothies, espresso drinks, milkshakes & fresh juices all in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Our catering services are planned with attention to detail for any event. We feature the best Alaskan seafood, local beef, and plenty of Vegetarian & Vegan options using as much seasonal Homer grown produce as possible. There is no skimping on the value you receive when you are served a delicious, robust meal, teeming with regional flavor and quality, from one of our smiling servers. Please check out our menu on our website and find out more about how we started the Cafe with just $43 and a driving passion to make the world a better place one bite at a time. We truly look forward to serving you and value your feedback. We are open from May until October and our friendly staff will serve you from 6am - 4pm daily.

blueberry cheese danish was out of this world!

Stopped by as we were heading from Homer back to Anchorage to get something to take on the road. Got their Fresh Blueberry and cheese danish and we wished we bought more than two! Can't say how their sit down dining is, but there were a lot of tables filled with happy looking customers. But if you... read more

We stopped by the cafe for lunch during our visit to Homer. They have been serving organic food since 1982 which was very impressive. I ordered a "grilled halibut sandwich with alaskan organic potatoes" and my wife had a smoothie. The service was good. We got our order served quickly. The sandwich and potatoes were very tasty and the smoothie... More

One of the coolest places to sip tea while trying to pick out the perfect pastry (savory and sweet!) Sit inside or outside - absorb the location, the locals, and the passion the owners bring to their business. I bought multiple copies of the kids' activity and recipe book authored and produced by one of the owners. One can buy... More

Homer has a plethora of wonderful bakeries and cafes. This is one of them. Had a great breakfast there the first morning of our trip. They also do coffee well. Inside and outside seating. A great selection of breads and pastries as well as other breakfast items. Convenient and right on the beaten path. You can't miss it - nor... More

Since we arrived in Homer at the tail end of the season, most restaurants on the Spit were closed already for the season. Fresh Sourdough was one of the remaining breakfast spots that we found (aside from good ol' McD's). It was packed when we were there. So good to see a menu full of organic ingredients! Truly 'Soil to... More

This environmentally-friendly, all natural foods cozy small town restaurant is drop-dead wonderful! Like most American restaurants today, the portions are humungous. Four of us shared 2 breakfasts and I still could not finish my portion. The pancakes are huge and fluffy and the real deal. No one could eat 3 of these! They serve real maple syrup with the pancakes.... More

We've been eating here since we discovered Homer in 1998. Our boys insist on stopping here when we come in from camping or boating before heading home to Anchorage. We've had local hamburgers, great breakfasts, chowder, hot chocolate, and of course that bakery case full of pastry and bread. I seem to remember a righteous Reuben once too. This is... More

We went there for breakfast on a recommendation from some locals. The food was excellent, even though it took some time to get service. They were busy and one of The owners was away. The hotcakes with reindeer sausage was awesome, and my parents had eggs and hotcakes as well. I was sad to hear that it is for sale,... More
