Description: AJ's Oldtown Steakhouse & Tavern is known locally as the "Historic Waterfront". AJ's is proud to be serving up the top 2% of USDA Prime Beef offered in the Nation and the only on the Kenai Peninsula. Offering mouth-watering steaks & great seafood including Scallops, King Crab, Fresh Halibut & Salmon! Let's not forget those delicious cheese burgers, the Tavern Menu, Spirits and Specialty Martinis in a casual old town atmosphere! This venue also features great family entertainment & dinner music before 10pm. If your looking for food late...AJ's is the last Kitchen open in Homer. Come in and see what's new. The transformation is amazing! We've kept the old town hospitality tradtion going and are still serving Homer's famous Red Knot Craft Beer, the Old Town Rusty Nail & some amazing specialty martinis! Some history...Established in 1941 AJ's has an amazing history. The front part of the building was built as the original women's club in 1937. Laura & Walt purchased it from the women's club and it opened as the first cafe & bar in Homer in 1941. They named it the Homer Cafe & Club. It featured just a few bar stools, a pool table, and a tiny kitchen. Over the years it has had many owners including Tex & Marge Sharp. They named it the "Waterfront" and it became known as the best place on the peninsula to get a good steak! In the 1970's folks would spend hours at the Waterfront being entertained by the likes of Harley Hess & Hobo Jim. In the 1990's it became Duggan's and featured a friendly, Irish Pub atmosphere. Now, as AJ's, the old town building has come full circle back to the ol' Waterfront days, featuring great Steak, Seafood, Spirits & Entertainment, along with the same friendly old town hospitality that has been a tradition for over 70 years.

I have eaten here 5 times and while I enjoyed the ambience of the place, the food menu is lacking ., and it seems to be so that they can save money. They have had the same mashed potatoes(that get cold before eaten) and "local greens" that are just a spinach sateed in oil or something, for the last year... More

I am happy to hear that you enjoy our casual old town ambiance. We are lucky that we have a tradition of over 80 years of hospitality in Homer to help us along. It sounds like you caught us on a night with fresh local kale which can look like spinach. I am sorry you don’t care for kale; however,... More

Wow, what a meal. I've seen AJ's Steakhouse in Homer, AK on a few day trips but was gone before AJ's opened at 4 pm. I was in Homer Alaska with my wife and before leaving it was 5 pm so we went to eat at AJ's. They use USDA Prime Beef, have very good and friendly service and great... More

We were there on a busy night and were lucky to get seated right away. I had the scallops - they were out of this world! You could tell they were very fresh. They had live music the night we were there. The duo was fantastic. It wasn't too loud with the live music. Wonderful evening!

An old friend and I went to Homer for an overnight trip and had a good size brunch so wanted something light for dinner. We actually were able to split a crab salad which was fabulous. They served us quickly and we had a great time.

Service was decent but I don't think the food quality is worth the prices. I just had mussels (good!) but my husband wasn't impressed with his hamburger served on an old dry bun. He didn't even finish it which doesn't happen often. I think there are much better choices in the area.

My friend from Minnesota and I was told by our nice Motel staff this is the best place for a hamburger. We were happy to find there was not a waiting line when we arrived. We were seated right away. It is your basic Alaskan décor restaurant that was only half full, but it took the staff a long time... More

Good steaks and great shrimp appetizers. The blue cheese potato chips were something new and appealing. Good menu choices. Roomy and not too noisey. Host is great!

Good steaks and the truffle french fries were delicious. Atmosphere was nice with a lounge singer playing the piano.
