Description: AJ's Oldtown Steakhouse & Tavern is known locally as the "Historic Waterfront". AJ's is proud to be serving up the top 2% of USDA Prime Beef offered in the Nation and the only on the Kenai Peninsula. Offering mouth-watering steaks & great seafood including Scallops, King Crab, Fresh Halibut & Salmon! Let's not forget those delicious cheese burgers, the Tavern Menu, Spirits and Specialty Martinis in a casual old town atmosphere! This venue also features great family entertainment & dinner music before 10pm. If your looking for food late...AJ's is the last Kitchen open in Homer. Come in and see what's new. The transformation is amazing! We've kept the old town hospitality tradtion going and are still serving Homer's famous Red Knot Craft Beer, the Old Town Rusty Nail & some amazing specialty martinis! Some history...Established in 1941 AJ's has an amazing history. The front part of the building was built as the original women's club in 1937. Laura & Walt purchased it from the women's club and it opened as the first cafe & bar in Homer in 1941. They named it the Homer Cafe & Club. It featured just a few bar stools, a pool table, and a tiny kitchen. Over the years it has had many owners including Tex & Marge Sharp. They named it the "Waterfront" and it became known as the best place on the peninsula to get a good steak! In the 1970's folks would spend hours at the Waterfront being entertained by the likes of Harley Hess & Hobo Jim. In the 1990's it became Duggan's and featured a friendly, Irish Pub atmosphere. Now, as AJ's, the old town building has come full circle back to the ol' Waterfront days, featuring great Steak, Seafood, Spirits & Entertainment, along with the same friendly old town hospitality that has been a tradition for over 70 years.

This was my second visit to AJ's. The food is good, the staff is friendly, and the draft beer is delicious. The restaurant has a kind of funky atmosphere, but that is just fine for Homer. This is not big city fine dining, but I will happily eat there again if I return to Homer.

Living in Homer for over 20 years my family and I have had the opportunity to eat in most of the eateries in Homer. One of the best, in my opinion is AJ's. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the food is great. The steaks were excellent, I had the filet and my wife had the Rib Eye. I... More

Enjoyed the food. Ribeye with mushrooms and onions was great! The service was good but the atmosphere was a bit rustic. We could watch the kitchen staff from our table. They have live music entertainment. We were there a few nights too early and missed a performance by Atz and Atz Lee Kilcher.

Returned for the Hobo Joe dinner show, front row seats. Decided to do the SMART thing at a steakhouse and order a steak! Unfortunately, I ordered it medium well, and it arrived medium rare. And our waitress was nowhere to be found. I ate the outside and left the rare, waiting for her to return to ask "how is everything?"... More

May I take a moment of time to express my appreciation for AJ’s Restaurant in our Homer Alaska? It was wonderful! Living in a small town and recently married we seek a nice romantic spot with wonderful food and atmosphere. Being on date night I selected AJ’s and called ahead where the phone was answered promptly with a smiling voice.... More

We brought our whole family here and really enjoyed our halibut and burgers. Too bad, they were out of the crab bisque soup. Delicious.

I have eaten here 5 times and while I enjoyed the ambience of the place, the food menu is lacking ., and it seems to be so that they can save money. They have had the same mashed potatoes(that get cold before eaten) and "local greens" that are just a spinach sateed in oil or something, for the last year... More

I am happy to hear that you enjoy our casual old town ambiance. We are lucky that we have a tradition of over 80 years of hospitality in Homer to help us along. It sounds like you caught us on a night with fresh local kale which can look like spinach. I am sorry you don’t care for kale; however,... More

Wow, what a meal. I've seen AJ's Steakhouse in Homer, AK on a few day trips but was gone before AJ's opened at 4 pm. I was in Homer Alaska with my wife and before leaving it was 5 pm so we went to eat at AJ's. They use USDA Prime Beef, have very good and friendly service and great... More
