AJ's Oldtown Steakhouse & Tavern is known locally as the "Historic Waterfront". AJ's is proud to be serving up the top 2% of USDA Prime Beef offered in the Nation and the only on the Kenai Peninsula. Offering mouth-watering steaks & great seafood including Scallops, King Crab, Fresh Halibut & Salmon! Let's not forget those delicious cheese burgers, the Tavern Menu, Spirits and Specialty Martinis in a casual old town atmosphere! This venue also features great family entertainment & dinner music before 10pm. If your looking for food late...AJ's is the last Kitchen open in Homer. Come in and see what's new. The transformation is amazing! We've kept the old town hospitality tradtion going and are still serving Homer's famous Red Knot Craft Beer, the Old Town Rusty Nail & some amazing specialty martinis! Some history...Established in 1941 AJ's has an amazing history. The front part of the building was built as the original women's club in 1937. Laura & Walt purchased it from the women's club and it opened as the first cafe & bar in Homer in 1941. They named it the Homer Cafe & Club. It featured just a few bar stools, a pool table, and a tiny kitchen. Over the years it has had many owners including Tex & Marge Sharp. They named it the "Waterfront" and it became known as the best place on the peninsula to get a good steak! In the 1970's folks would spend hours at the Waterfront being entertained by the likes of Harley Hess & Hobo Jim. In the 1990's it became Duggan's and featured a friendly, Irish Pub atmosphere. Now, as AJ's, the old town building has come full circle back to the ol' Waterfront days, featuring great Steak, Seafood, Spirits & Entertainment, along with the same friendly old town hospitality that has been a tradition for over 70 years.

One good experience, one a bit less so

We had a free afternoon/evening on our recent trip to the Kenai Peninsula, and I'd never been to Homer, so we decided to have a bit of a drive. Counting road construction, it was more than a bit, lol. We didn't have any plans, but after driving around a bit and picking up an old "Attractions guide... read more

Food is great, good portions. The atmosphere is very nice and the menu has something for everyone. Steak, seafood and some of their own creations that are fun to try.

We have been to this restaurant twice and will probably be back before we leave. The food is excellent and there is music to make the evening even more special. My husband had the salmon special and he said it was the best he ever had. You cannot go wrong with anything. Our favorite in Homer

Saw Hobo Jim preform form the front row and had calamari and halibut for dinner. I love my seafood just flash fried and it came out perfect. AJ's is famous for prime steaks. Loved the dinner show. Go there when in Homer!

A friend and I had dinner at AJ's the night of July 19 and it was a great experience. We had the best steak that was big enough to split. But the most fun part of the evening is that our waitress was spunky, fun, and the owner even came to the table to visit. It's a place you must... More

My wife and I had a late dinner here. It was a quiet Monday evening, and the bar was almost deserted. They have some interesting local beers on tap. Service was friendly and efficient, and the food was fine. Prices are reasonable for Homer.

Super friendly atmosphere. Called a few hours before and person answering got us in on a busy night. Delicious halibut fish and chips and I had a tasty Rockfish for the first time. A little bit "fatter" than halibut but has its own unique taste. Service was really friendly and efficient. Lots of people in this place so in can... More

After enjoying fish for a while, it was nice to have a steak at AJ's. We ate there twice while in Homer. Parking can be limited and it is a popular place so going for dinner on a weekend without a reservation can be a roll of the dice. Steaks are well prepared and service is friendly. Live music performs... More

We stopped here for dinner. The restaurant was full so we made a reservation and went on a little walk to Beluga Slough. When we came back, our table was ready. The food was OK but not outstanding. Prices are a little high. Service was excellent. I did not like that there was carpet on the floor, makes me always... More

A bit on the expensive side but it is a steak and seafood restaurant, so it's expected... and everything is fantastic. There was live music the Saturday we visited, which was a nice surprise. Would definitely visit here again..my scallops were cooked to perfection, and that rarely happens when I order scallops!
