Description: AJ's Oldtown Steakhouse & Tavern is known locally as the "Historic...
AJ's Oldtown Steakhouse & Tavern is known locally as the "Historic Waterfront". AJ's is proud to be serving up the top 2% of USDA Prime Beef offered in the Nation and the only on the Kenai Peninsula. Offering mouth-watering steaks & great seafood including Scallops, King Crab, Fresh Halibut & Salmon! Let's not forget those delicious cheese burgers, the Tavern Menu, Spirits and Specialty Martinis in a casual old town atmosphere! This venue also features great family entertainment & dinner music before 10pm. If your looking for food late...AJ's is the last Kitchen open in Homer. Come in and see what's new. The transformation is amazing! We've kept the old town hospitality tradtion going and are still serving Homer's famous Red Knot Craft Beer, the Old Town Rusty Nail & some amazing specialty martinis! Some history...Established in 1941 AJ's has an amazing history. The front part of the building was built as the original women's club in 1937. Laura & Walt purchased it from the women's club and it opened as the first cafe & bar in Homer in 1941. They named it the Homer Cafe & Club. It featured just a few bar stools, a pool table, and a tiny kitchen. Over the years it has had many owners including Tex & Marge Sharp. They named it the "Waterfront" and it became known as the best place on the peninsula to get a good steak! In the 1970's folks would spend hours at the Waterfront being entertained by the likes of Harley Hess & Hobo Jim. In the 1990's it became Duggan's and featured a friendly, Irish Pub atmosphere. Now, as AJ's, the old town building has come full circle back to the ol' Waterfront days, featuring great Steak, Seafood, Spirits & Entertainment, along with the same friendly old town hospitality that has been a tradition for over 70 years.

Stay at the Driftwood Inn and eat at AJs

I was staying at the Driftwood Inn, across the street. I found AJs to be clean and the fish special was an excellent meal and a reasonable price. I would recommend a meal if you are staying in Homer.

We decided on having appetizers for supper tonight for something different. It was fabulous! We had the calamari (done perfect) fresh clams and mussels that had a nice sauce that we soaked up with some bread and an order of onion rings! And for those of you that want service, we thought our waitress was excellent!

We liked this restaurant, but found it a little run-down and just average for food and drinks. The service was good and friendly wait-staff.

Eat seafood while you are in Homer. The steaks were ok to not so good. The service was good and our waitress was very friendly.

I know Homer is the Halibut capital, but I wanted salmon - was it ever delicious. A bit pricey, but delicious. My husband enjoyed a steak. We were well pleased with the service, how our food was presented, but more importantly, how it tasted. If you want a nice meal and you're in the area, check them out.

Wife and I went there after a long day on the water fishing and we were staying across the street. The burgers were awesome and the service was fast and friendly. We are going back tomorrow.

Visited A.J,'s Oldtown Steakhouse & Tavern based on other TripAdvisor reviews. Because we were were in Homer AK, the halibut capital, we ordered their Halibut Fish and Chip Combo. What we received were several pieces of very dry, tasteless breaded halibut on a bed of overcooked, limp french fries. We complained about the poor quality of the meal and the... More

It was the only steak house in town. It was good food and the service was okay. Not exceptional. My daughter has a gluten intolerance and they were not real up to date on this. It was hard for her to find something to eat.

The food was terrific and the service was quick. We had a burger and a pasta / chicken dish and both were great quality.

What a pleasant surprise! AJ's looks old and rough from the outside, but the food and service and live entertainment was such a treat to experience. We will definitely be back for more!
