Description: AJ's Oldtown Steakhouse & Tavern is known locally as the "Historic...
AJ's Oldtown Steakhouse & Tavern is known locally as the "Historic Waterfront". AJ's is proud to be serving up the top 2% of USDA Prime Beef offered in the Nation and the only on the Kenai Peninsula. Offering mouth-watering steaks & great seafood including Scallops, King Crab, Fresh Halibut & Salmon! Let's not forget those delicious cheese burgers, the Tavern Menu, Spirits and Specialty Martinis in a casual old town atmosphere! This venue also features great family entertainment & dinner music before 10pm. If your looking for food late...AJ's is the last Kitchen open in Homer. Come in and see what's new. The transformation is amazing! We've kept the old town hospitality tradtion going and are still serving Homer's famous Red Knot Craft Beer, the Old Town Rusty Nail & some amazing specialty martinis! Some history...Established in 1941 AJ's has an amazing history. The front part of the building was built as the original women's club in 1937. Laura & Walt purchased it from the women's club and it opened as the first cafe & bar in Homer in 1941. They named it the Homer Cafe & Club. It featured just a few bar stools, a pool table, and a tiny kitchen. Over the years it has had many owners including Tex & Marge Sharp. They named it the "Waterfront" and it became known as the best place on the peninsula to get a good steak! In the 1970's folks would spend hours at the Waterfront being entertained by the likes of Harley Hess & Hobo Jim. In the 1990's it became Duggan's and featured a friendly, Irish Pub atmosphere. Now, as AJ's, the old town building has come full circle back to the ol' Waterfront days, featuring great Steak, Seafood, Spirits & Entertainment, along with the same friendly old town hospitality that has been a tradition for over 70 years.

Great fillet

Good food, and Hobo Jim was fabulous. We were entertained and full when we left. After an over night at Hallo Bay, we were hungry for protein!

One night during our trip I wanted to have steak for dinner and we decided to try AJ's Steakhouse. My sirloin steak was cooked and seasoned to perfection and so tender I didn't need a knife to cut it! A wedge salad with homemade blue cheese dressing completed the meal for me...I was in heaven. The service was pleasant and... More

Food was just OK. Staff was very friendly, but food flavor needed work. Hamburgers were a little over done.

The BEST PRIME RIB in Alaska! 🍴🍴 AJ's serves prime rib on Saturday nights and you don't want to miss it. Food is consistently excellent, wait staff friendly and they have live music on the weekends. You don't want to miss this Gem. Located 1block up from Two Sister's Bakery in Old Town Homer.

We ate here on June 27, 2015. My husband ordered the New York Strip and said it was the best steak he ever had. He gave me a bite and it melted in my mouth. He said the caesar salad had homemade dressing and croutons. There wasn't a bite left on his plate. I had the prime rib which was... More

As soon as you walk through the door you are hammered with the stench of fish guts and old beer. The floor is so uneven it's hard to feel sober as you walk the plank. If cold soup with a straw wrapper garnish isn't enough to convince you to pass on this place, the twanging strum of Hobo Jim will... More

I have been a "Hobo Jim" fan for over 30 years, listening to his CDs back in my home state of Michigan. How blessed we were to find out he was performing here at this restaurant in Homer the night we were there! His warm songs about Alaska and the delicious food from AJ's, not to mention cold, tasty Alaskan... More

We were pretty disappointed after we read so many great reviews. I was excited for crabs legs and my husband got the halibut fish and chips. I got my salad first, which was not fresh lettuce. Lots of brown spots I was only able to eat about 1/3 of it. Then came our meals. For the price of king crab... More

At the recommendation of a local colleague, I ate here and my steak was perfect. With mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus and a nice pour of cabernet. Try the blue cheese fondue!
