Description: AJ's Oldtown Steakhouse & Tavern is known locally as the "Historic...
AJ's Oldtown Steakhouse & Tavern is known locally as the "Historic Waterfront". AJ's is proud to be serving up the top 2% of USDA Prime Beef offered in the Nation and the only on the Kenai Peninsula. Offering mouth-watering steaks & great seafood including Scallops, King Crab, Fresh Halibut & Salmon! Let's not forget those delicious cheese burgers, the Tavern Menu, Spirits and Specialty Martinis in a casual old town atmosphere! This venue also features great family entertainment & dinner music before 10pm. If your looking for food late...AJ's is the last Kitchen open in Homer. Come in and see what's new. The transformation is amazing! We've kept the old town hospitality tradtion going and are still serving Homer's famous Red Knot Craft Beer, the Old Town Rusty Nail & some amazing specialty martinis! Some history...Established in 1941 AJ's has an amazing history. The front part of the building was built as the original women's club in 1937. Laura & Walt purchased it from the women's club and it opened as the first cafe & bar in Homer in 1941. They named it the Homer Cafe & Club. It featured just a few bar stools, a pool table, and a tiny kitchen. Over the years it has had many owners including Tex & Marge Sharp. They named it the "Waterfront" and it became known as the best place on the peninsula to get a good steak! In the 1970's folks would spend hours at the Waterfront being entertained by the likes of Harley Hess & Hobo Jim. In the 1990's it became Duggan's and featured a friendly, Irish Pub atmosphere. Now, as AJ's, the old town building has come full circle back to the ol' Waterfront days, featuring great Steak, Seafood, Spirits & Entertainment, along with the same friendly old town hospitality that has been a tradition for over 70 years.

Excellent Service

Most of the places were closed because it was Sunday in the winter season. We had a wonderful meal and the service was very very good - which made for a great night!

The Food was excellent. We were served quickly. I believe we ordered soup and salad, but I might be wrong. I would definitely return to this restaurant. Make reservations because the restaurant is very popular.

A quick take out to enjoy across the street at the driftwood inn. Loved the sauce and tender calamari. Enjoyed a huge Mushroom burger that was very good, fresh mushrooms on it can make the whole experience a 5. Excellent service by Cameron. Thank YOU!

This was a plesant surprise to see the improvements to the inside of the building and the improvements to the menue. When we first visited this old time bar it was full of the old salts of Homer hanging on the bar eating pickled pigs feet and buying pull tabs. Everything has greatly improved including the service. Darrel, who is... More

Rib Eye steak WAS 1/2 FAT. Wait staff seemed indifferent. Forgot part of the order. Not even an apology. The other steak was tough and tasteless. All in all An over priced waste of cash.

I am crushed! Thank you for your feedback. I am very sorry we did not bring your peppercorn sauce to you on the first delivery. AJ's is a gem in Old Town Homer. Unsuspecting on the outside, the dining area was spacious and cozy, complete with a stage- we went for their Irish celebration around St. Patty's day, so very festive. I had the steak salad, and it was cooked perfectly, with a really great blue cheese dressing. My partner had a New york strip,... More

When asked if the halibut fish and chips dish was served using FRESH halibut, we were assured it was. we were told that yes it was fresh, that "it came in last night, so yes it's fresh". We were sadly disappointed with something that looked like nothing more than a Tyson breaded nugget of sorts. Dousing it with tarter was... More

Dear JT, Thank you for your feedback. We do strive for quality and consistency and care deeply that we offer our customers the freshest possible options available for the best price. We source our fresh halibut from local fishermen when in season. During a few months early in the year, when halibut is not in season or hard to get... More
