Description: AJ's Oldtown Steakhouse & Tavern is known locally as the "Historic Waterfront". AJ's is proud to be serving up the top 2% of USDA Prime Beef offered in the Nation and the only on the Kenai Peninsula. Offering mouth-watering steaks & great seafood including Scallops, King Crab, Fresh Halibut & Salmon! Let's not forget those delicious cheese burgers, the Tavern Menu, Spirits and Specialty Martinis in a casual old town atmosphere! This venue also features great family entertainment & dinner music before 10pm. If your looking for food late...AJ's is the last Kitchen open in Homer. Come in and see what's new. The transformation is amazing! We've kept the old town hospitality tradtion going and are still serving Homer's famous Red Knot Craft Beer, the Old Town Rusty Nail & some amazing specialty martinis! Some history...Established in 1941 AJ's has an amazing history. The front part of the building was built as the original women's club in 1937. Laura & Walt purchased it from the women's club and it opened as the first cafe & bar in Homer in 1941. They named it the Homer Cafe & Club. It featured just a few bar stools, a pool table, and a tiny kitchen. Over the years it has had many owners including Tex & Marge Sharp. They named it the "Waterfront" and it became known as the best place on the peninsula to get a good steak! In the 1970's folks would spend hours at the Waterfront being entertained by the likes of Harley Hess & Hobo Jim. In the 1990's it became Duggan's and featured a friendly, Irish Pub atmosphere. Now, as AJ's, the old town building has come full circle back to the ol' Waterfront days, featuring great Steak, Seafood, Spirits & Entertainment, along with the same friendly old town hospitality that has been a tradition for over 70 years.

Very fun place to eat. Meal & dessert were excellent. Staff was friendly and service was excellent. The best I've had in Homer. Not on the tourist strip. Pricing a bit high, but more reasonable than harbor area tourist strip. Definitely worth revisiting.

After the Art Walk we visited here for cocktails and snacks. They have a great atmosphere and although we didn't eat here the food looked wonderful. Service at the bar was excellent and the Blue Cheese Chips were to die for!!!

AJ's was hosting a large party in the back room when we went for dinner. The basic restaurant was only half full, but the staff seemed overwhelmed. They were out of both king crab and scallops. (AJ's calls themselves a steakhouse, but we were in a seafood mood, so we didn't try steaks.)They served a liquer that had gone bad.... More

We were happy to find there was not a waiting list when we arrived. We were seated right away. The food was good, but nothing really special. We felt that it was expensive for what we got. Service was average, atmosphere was average. I'm not sure we'd eat there again although we have no real complaints either. Just OK.

Best mussels I've ever eaten. Really fresh and sweet. The chocolate brownie dessert was special too! Made reservations and table was ready when we arrived.

We had a long drive and after checking in to our accommodations for the night had to rush out to find a place to eat that wasn't fast food. Most of the restaurants in Homer close before 10pm, but AJ's was open till 10:30 and they were happy to seat us despite a little under 30 minutes till closing. The... More

Located near the driftwood lodge this was a great option for dinner. 10oz steak with peppercorn sauce, greens and mash potatoes was $21 - a real steal! The steak cut so easily and melted in your mouth. Service was good but a little slow. This was understandable given how popular the place was. On Saturday there was also a local... More

the service was a bit slow, but the food made up for it , and slowing down was the idea for the trip, they did not make us feel rushed even though we stayed past closing, the king crab was fantastic and the crab Caesar sala d was to die for!!

We visited AJ's for the Hobo Jim concert on a Tuesday night in July. We had a fabulous time! We came for dinner and our expectations were exceeded. The highlight for me was the sirloin steak--I haven't had steak that good and tender in a long, long time. So beautiful! Also tried the local blueberry merlot which was really good--not... More
