We spent a week in Haines, sampling every restaurant there (there are few good ones). We were fortunate to be served by Jessie, who we had met earlier at the Haines-Scagway fast ferry location. She is a dream person who attends to your every need. We began our meal with the green apple caramelized flatbread along with a caesar salad.... More

The service, food, and setting was excellent! A charming restaurant in the old Halsingland Hotel in Fort Seward with beautiful presentations of the food was a surprise to us in this little town. This was one of our few dinners in our entire Alaskan trip that used real linens with tablecloths. Nice.

We were staying near this hotel and ending up dining here for three nights running, the halibut and chips were so good. Seriously, halibut and chips three nights in a row! We ate in the bar area after enjoying a few drinks and we ordered from the bar menu although our friendly waitperson said we could also order from the... More

Ate at the Halsingland Hotel three nights. Good food, timely service and friendly staff. Made the mistake of trying to eat at another restaurant one night (it had been advertised as a gourmet restaurant). Waited an hour and only had our drinks delivered to our table. Never did receive our food. We left and went back to the Halsingland Hotel.... More

We ate at the barroom in the Halsingland Hotel on two occasions. We lived in Haines 50 years ago and the Halsingland Hotel was then renowned for its food. We were poor students working locally for the summer and could not afford to eat there. Recently we returned to Haines for a visit and could now afford to eat at... More

We ate in the bar. I checked out the website before we went to see what was on offer. Halibut and chips at $14.95 sounded good. So was surprised that menu was showing $16.95. Apparently didn't realise and hasn't been updated since last year. False advertising I think! Ordered one anyway. Got 3 small nuggets and some salt&pepper chips. Chips... More

When I typed in the name of this restaurant to write this review it came up along with Commander's Palace in New Orleans a world renowned restaurant that I have also had the pleasure of dining at. And in my opinion The Commander's Room at Hotel Hasingland is right up there with this and many fine restaurants around the world.... More

For 14 years I have traveled all over Alaska and this might be the best food I've had in the state. As a starter I had Crispy Prawns in Orange Mayonnaise. It sounds strange but was exquisite. As a main course I had Crab-crusted Halibut over couscous with zucchini and mint. My father had the lamb shank which fell off... More

We were down from Whitehorse for the weekend. The Fireweed was closed on Sunday night and we had already eaten at Mosey's. The Halsingland was it. And how lucky we were! Our waiter was inexperienced, covering for his girlfriend who was out of town for the weekend. He tried and was very pleasant but was not a professional waiter. But... More

I had a group of twelve of us staying at the Hasingland. We ate there three of our four nights (it was closed one of the nights) and every meal was just the best! Having read the reviews, I expected good, but it really was better. Yes white table clothes, but unpretentious and casual. Both John and Tina as wait... More
