Ok, I know this was their last day of the season, but everything seemed a bit....rubbish! 2 of the 5 or 6 entrees were sold out, and we were there early, but this looked like the busiest day of the year...it was packed! It took a full hour to go straight to entree's. I ordered the rib-eye, medium rare, it... More

Although learning to cook a steak is one of the easiest tasks for most chefs to learn, those in the kitchen here consistently mess up. If a steak is ordered medium rare it comes out rare. If you order medium it comes out rare. The menu does not say "pepper steak", yet the steak arrives coated in cracked pepper. The... More

Hits: perfect lemon drop martini, excellent duck confit salad, crab crusted halibut, beet salad. Fail on rib eye steak for both me and the table beside me that had three ordered. too much salt and too much fat and gristle. not cooked to specification-think these are cooked on a flat top not a grill as they just looked grey. sad... Food was fine, service was ridiculous. We torturely watched as a couple who was there well before us waited well over an hour for fish and chips....We would have walked out well before them. My $30/$40 steak was fatty and chewy. Not sure why we tipped the waitress but I'm sure we did. Local kids running amuck throughout the bar... More

We ate dinner here on a Monday night. It was somewhat busy but not crowded. We has a table with a lovely view of the water and old firehouse. After we were seated it took us a long time to order drinks, then another long time to receive our drinks. Other than that the service was great and we really... More

We spent 4 weeks in a motor home traveling up the Dempster Highway and returning to Alaska to see Denali. On our way to Skagway, we stopped in Haines for a delightful evening stroll around Ft. Simpson and dinner at the Commander's Room. A local recommended it to us and it was "spot on"! We both had flat breads for... More

My husband and I are visiting in Haines, Alaska. Normally we have our meals in our RV, but today we decided to eat out. We asked several people for restaurant recommendations and the Commander's Room at the Haslingland Hotel in Fort Stewart was the top recommendation. So we tried it. The restaurant has two rooms in which to dine.....the formal... More

While the bar is more kid-friendly than the dining room, with the stem glasses and white linens, the food is EXCELLENT! Kids will most likely need to order from the bar menu unless they enjoy purees, reduction sauces, and garnish. The steak and parsnips were delectable and were very honestly the best paired, tastiest food I've had in ages--including in... More

We made a reservation and asked for a table with a view. Looking out on the bay with fog rolllng in was fantastic. We had halibut, but I forgot to request that it not be overcooked. It wasn't--it was perfect. The old hotel was charming as well--we didn't stay there as we were travelling in an RV. The wine list... More

We had a nice dinner there, meeting up with friends we had met earlier in the week. The food was good, the service very nice. Definitely recommend it.
