Description: Located in Haines, Alaska, the Fort Seward Lodge, Restaurant and Saloon was built in 1904 as part of the first U.S military base in Alaska. As the original Post Exchange, the Fort has been a part of the Haines community for over 100 years. The building has gone through many changes and additions over the years, decommissioned in the early 1930's and purchased by a group of retired officers, it started it's long history as a saloon and lodge in the true Alaskan spirit. Currently the lodge operates seasonally, open February - May for Heli-skiing and June - October for summer tourism and fishing. The Fort restaurant and bar is known for good times, good people and good food. Our fresh, local seafood dishes are served up with pride as Alaska offers some of the finest seafood on Earth and Haines is no exception. Our Angus steaks, hand cut to thickness, and delicious local beer will be the perfect fuel for whatever Alaskan adventure you have planned. Come hang out with the locals and enjoy a cocktail on our deck, the view is one of a kind!

Just ate at the Ft. Seward for the second time this year. Yes the prices are high, but I had one of the best burgers ever!

We had resesrvations at the lodge but when we arrived there was no one there to meet us. Our cab driver was very helpful. He spent about 15 minutes finding someone to let us in. The restaurant was closed and they do not serve breakfast. The room was Spartan. The bath was so small you can hardly turn around. The... More

My husband and I stayed at the Fort Seward Lodge for a week in Haines. We were impressed with the young couple running the place, a 110 year old military building. If you are looking for a true Alaskan experience then you've got to check this place out. The food was great and the staff very friendly. we highly recommend... More

Waitstaff is severely lacking and the place is not that impressive overall. Rooms are definitely not worth it. Reminiscent of a 1970's paneled nightmare. The food however is worth the trip. We actually tipped the chef while only leaving standard gratuity for the waitress. Young man named Dave cooks up the best prime rib in the northwest. Check timing though... More

Our family ate on October 2 this year. The waitress didn't knew the menu so she had to go back in the kitchen & ask the cooks. We had fish&chips and the Captain platter. All deep fried, and my platter only had a baked potatoe, they forgot the steamed veggies. Didn't worth the price at all. Will not go again.... More

The location is great, as is the view of the Lynn Canal. Service was friendly. Some of us partook in the 'all you can eat' crab dinner. The 'fresh daily' part of the crab was somewhat suspect . The clarified butter supplied did not taste like butter but more like popcorn flavouring at the movies. We asked the waitress and she... More

Our visit to Haines was supplimented by our accommodations at the Fort Seward Lodge. We chose the kitchen units that face Lynn Canal, the marina and cruise ship dock. The location has to be one of the best bets available to tourists visiting Haines. The location of the lodge is on the site of the first military base in Alaska... More
