Although we tried several restaurants during our stay on the island, including those supposedly "the best on the island," my husband and I agreed that our favorite meal was at The Flame Tree. We sat outside overlooking the freshwater stream/pond and really enjoyed watching the fish and eels and crawdads as we waited for our food. Also, there were a... more

I have been to the Cook Islands many times amd first started going here when Sue still owned it - I have seen many changes with the next owners and a sad decline, but happy to say that the now newer owners have resurrected this restaurant. A friend had their wedding dinner there a couple of months before for 40+... more

We liked the indoor/outdoor feel of Flame Tree. They did a good job of incorporating the outdoors while still providing a very nice table setting, something which is sometimes lost in such an environment. Overall service was quite adequate, but we felt the meals (mahi-mahi and swordfish) just didn't live up to the setting; nothing was bad, but it just... more

The restaurant was very busy on this particular night and we could not get a reservation till late, and late in the Cook Islands is like 8.30 pm. Fine, by us, but we found that the service suffered hugely as the night got later. We had to ask repeatedly for items like our wine... The food was good, not great,... more

The entree was a plate of salt, with squid apparently hiding in it. My girlfriend had the eye fillet steak, (or so they claimed)it was undercooked and deffinately not eye fillet, more like scotch or rump. The service was abismal, not once did our waiter check with us. The atmosphere was ok, for an empty restaurant (that should have been... more

Had a really good meal at the Flame tree. Service and location was good and the menu more than adequately catered for vegetarians. The food was flavoursome and well presented and was only just pipped to the post of favourite meal by our meal at Tamarind due to overall dining experience there. The banoffee tart for dessert was sublime and... more

We enjoyed dinner at 'The Flame Tree' last week and had a delicious meal! Yes, we had to pay extra for a salad or veg, but that is fairly common and as the main courses were approx NZ$30, it wasn't too expensive. We certainly felt that we had had value for money. The food was well cooked and presented and... more

An expensive dinner, made more so by the absence of accompaniment with the mains. In other words a main is just that- a chunk of meat or fish and you have to order sides with it. I had the braised pork belly, which by itself was well cooked with a nice crackling, but the taste was overpowered by the extremely... more
