We had bought Sonja"s (owner) cook book in Raro the previous year and were looking forward to visiting this unique and honest cafe which is basically located in the front garden of their house. A small eating area on wood benches and tables had lots of charm. We were staying very close by which meant we could use their takeaway... More

Tauono's isn't a restaurant as it purports to be. If it needs categorising, it would be closer to a garden cafe than any other type of eatery. We attempted to eat there today. I'm unsure as to what the lady who runs it is really trying to do. The lack of consistent, professionally run service, the length of time to... More

Great little garden setting to eat a very tasty home cooked meal. Perfect lunch spot with a very friendly and knowledgeable host.

Went there on a Friday afternoon for lunch. They are only open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. There are about 5 picnic tables set up in a garden. Sonja makes her food with items grown in the extensive garden she has on the property. You are basically sitting among the foods she is preparing for you. She said that the cyclone... More

It is really hard to capture the feel of this place in words, it has an unassuming little sign out the front, and the quaintest little seating arrangements in the garden. We were just popping in for a snack, but we had underestimated the place, as it offered amazing meals. It cost more than I expected, but when we saw... More

We visited Tauono's several times to buy fruits and vegetables. We got great tomatos, egg plants, star fruit and roasted coconut. The quality is top notch. Everything tasted delicious. Prices are also very reasonable. Often we found fruits or vegetables here that we couldn't get in the shops on the island.

Sonya is the owner, and she can really cook! She's Austrian by birth, but has gone native, and her teas and lunches are not to be missed. She grows her own fruit and vegetables and her fish plates, fresh tropical juices and homemade ice cream will put a smile on your face. She is gregarious and knowledgeable. She also sells... More

Tauono's is a great little café and organic fruit market. The café is only open from noon to 2 PM on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. We were a bit early for lunch and Sonja let us walk through her property to the beach. It was very pretty and a great way to pass the time until lunch was ready. The... More

We recently spent a week on Aitutaki, and were encouraged to try Tauono's. Everything was delicious, and the service was great. We had an opportunity to meet Sonja, who was extremely charming. We also purchased her book, "Sonja's Kitchen". The cookbook has many of Sonja's great island recipes, as well as information about local fruits and vegetables used in her... More
