Okay not the best Mexican place to eat for sure, but for Barrow the best Mexican place to eat. The owners son is funny as heck, which would likely be your server. Not bad, not the best, if you want Mexican stop buy,

We went to Barrow for a little more than a day in Aug 2013. I just literally found out today that Pepe's was burnt down to to ground literally after two days of us leaving Barrow. And I found out that it was Mike Shultz's mother's restaurant. The same Mike Shultz who is well known for taking people on a... More

You really don't think a Mexican restaurant should be this far north but Pepe's is great. Everything this far north is more expensive, appropriately so. Enjoy.

Pepe's had great memorabilia but marginal food. Like many other restaurants in Barrow, they served many different kinds of food; Mexican, steaks, burgers, Italian, etc. Kind of expensive but no more so than most of the other places here in Barrow. Not there anymore - burned down completely in Fall 2013.

Interesting, family style Mexican restaurant. Obviously popular with the locals - which is always encouraging. Very friendly staff and patrons. Food was fine - Mexican food is not that common in Australia. We visited in August 2012 - but the only option we had below was August 2013.

When you have that 'need' for Mexican munchies there are dozens of places in the lower 48 and even in 'lower' Alaska however in Barrow there is one and only one Mexican place and that is Fran's PEPE'S North of the Border! First, depending on where you are from in the states Mexican food runs the gamut from the real... More

We ate here twice during our four-day stay in Barrow. I wasn't too impressed either time. The tortilla chips were very hard and the enchilada tasted like they used expired cheese. Nonetheless, it was a very unique place and for that I am sad to hear that it burned down.

We visited in June, while we waited for our room this was the first place we visited. Decorated MX theme fun and colorful. Food is pricey but everything is in Barrow. Our waiter was so much fun. He showed us pics of Fran and told us some stories. No polar bear club anymore. That was a disappointment. What prompted me... More

Barrow, Alaska is truly an experience and it wouldn't have been complete without a trip to Pepe's. We had dinner there the evening of August 30th and, unfortunately, the place burned to the ground Saturday morning. (They are promising to rebuild) Hope is wasn't something I did! The service was great and the food was good. But in Barrow, there... More

Well, on any visit to Nome (which I recommend,) the first stop for food is Pepe's. The food is great, informal friendly atmosphere, and loads of local color. Need to get your bearings; want to book a tour; have questions that are hard to find the answer to "down south;" the folks here will help you out. Most of the... More
