Just returned from a week+ first visit to Costa Rica that included a 2 night stay in Monteverde. We discovered Chimera for lunch our first day, and liked it so much, we returned for dinner. The chicken tortilla soup is outstanding, as was the eggplant with smoked provolone. Our waiter, Edwin, was great, and provided us with a 10% discount... more

Overall , the service and food was good and original. A salad and two entries and two sides with one beer and drink was about $40-45 dollars. The size of all dishes is pretty small so don't expect to be full if you are very hungry. more

I cannot add to the previous descriptions as they are accurate and complete. But I would share with readers that I am a local and when I have family and friends visit Monteverde my #1 pick is Chimera to wine and dine them. more

If there was a Michelin restaurant guide for CR, Chimera would deserve a star! Extremely fine, tasty cuisine with the freshest ingredients, excellent service, decent wine selection and above all: very reasonable price levels. The so-called tapas at about 4,00 $ are almost appetizer-sized and dwarf their Spanish counterparts. Do not take more than one if you intend to take... more

We came across Chimera as it was located just down the road from our hotel. The menu is not long, but offers a good selection. Everything sounded so good, I would've been fine with anything they brought out for me. The menu was creative and the sauces were unique. The coconut shrimp were to die for. We loved it so... more

We stopped here for tapas one day. There was never anyone eating here when we drove by, so we were somewhat apprehensive. I'm so glad we did - we had a coconut mojito, ginger margarita (not my fav), coconut shrimp, onion rings and tortilla soup - which is the best tortilla soup I've ever had. Tapas are $3-12. I wish... more

Chimera and its sister restaurant, Sofia, were the culinary highlights of our trip to Monteverde! YakDonny was an entertaining server. Favorite dishes: Chicken Tortilla Soup and garlic green beans at Chimera; the plaintain crusted sea bass at Sofia's was phenomenal (accompanied with coconut rice, chayote, and vegetables--muy delicioso!) Great wine list at Sofia's too. If we had the time, we... more

Chimera restaurant is located in the town of Santa Elena on the road leading to the Cloud Forest Reserve. It serves tapas style food using local farmed ingredients. We had stewed white beans with bacon, coconut tamarind shrimp, coconut rice, hearts of palm salad, a hearty tortilla soup, local spice onion rings and for desert local-spiced apple cakes. Best margarita... more

I know most people like to eat where it's safe...at the hotel. What I prefer is eating out and trying something different with the locals. Chimera is cozy and delicious. Everything is set up like tapas. We ordered some typical dishes, heart of palm, fried yucca w/ garlic aioli dipping sauce, and an chipotle aztec soup. It was fresh, simple,... more

Chimera is a new latin-infused tapas restaurant. It is the sister restaurant of Sofia, located just down the road. To put it mildly, the food at Chimera is outstanding. We ordered five different dishes, two drinks, and everything was just out of this world. Really, the ginger martini is one of the best martinis I've ever tasted and their tapas... more
