Asked the hotel concierge at Gaia where to go for some great authentic Costa Rican Cuisine and his immediate response was El Arado. Got the ribs with potatoes with sour cream and i was definitely not disappointed. Not the best ribs ever but pretty damn good. The owner was very friendly and the service was amazing. She even brought out... More

The restaurant was empty when we pulled up, but I, sure it's normal for the rainy season. A very friendly man welcomed us and we ordered some wine. We were on a mission to eat fish, so we ordered the whole fish and the chicken and rice. The guy fired up the grill just for us and cooked this amazingly... More

We went in the off season (mid-May) and I got the whole snapper barbeque style (grilled over an open flame wrapped in aluminum) and it was nothing short of AMAZING!!!! My boyfriend got the saltinas, mahi mahi in a light tomato sauce, and it was amazing too. Bring your bug spray if you are going in the evening, and pay... More

We did all of our restaurant research on Trip Advisor and this restaurant (and it's positive reviews) were accurate. We ordered the Saltin (my favorite of our meal, the closest thing I can compare it to is ciopinno but it's not eaten as a soup, but like a ceviche) and whole fish (bbq grlled). Both were fantastic! We went on... More

The food was authentic, the prices are great and it was one of the best meals so far on our trip! Such a nice change from the pricier hotel options with predictable offerings. There is a lot of variety on the menu, including for the picky eaters among us, and we each had something different. This casual, very clean and... More

We returned to El Arado for an evening meal this trip. We enjoyed meeting the new owner Bo and being served his delicious food. The whole snapper was a huge hit at our table. Everyone was pleased with their menu choices and the fact that the beer was really cold. Thanks for a great evening.

Enjoyed an absolutely delicious grilled whole Red Snapper. Simply prepared but oh so tasty. Very fairly priced and friendly, efficient service.

We wanted to try a locals' favorite. We all thought the food was OKAY. I had the steak fajitas. They were something I could have gotten at a Taco Del Mar....not bad. The rest had the ribs. Everyone thought the sauce was COLD on the food. They also tasted OKAY. I saw another couple having the whole fish....that looked good.... More

Well thank you for your review. We do appreciate all reviews. As hard as we may try, I am sorry you thought your food was just OKAY. The Chef is Costa Rican and she only uses family recipes. We cook every plate to order and do not reheat to serve. We do work very hard so that all of our... More

This restaurant was recommended by one of the staff at the hotel we were staying at. Owner is a guy named "Bo" from Montana!! Really a very charming guy and greets you as you enter the open front to this small little restaurant. I had ribs and they were really good. Bo enjoys visiting with folks and obviously loves his... We like eating where the "locals" go and enjoy "their" food. This place has great atmosphere and local flavor. Most astonishing...American owned. Great story so talk to Bo, he's always there. Went there twice while in the area. Red snapper was incredible as were the ribs. Stop reading and just go!! It's typical open air so dress appropriate.

"Stop reading and just go!! It's typical open air so dress appropriate." Gracias mi amigo! Mucho Gracias! Thank you for a wonderful review! As we have a wonderful climate here in CR our restaurant is open air like most all "Typical" Restaurants. All our recipes are Costa Rican, all of our ingredients are farm fresh. We are pretty laid back... More
