Best Fish Restaurant Period!

I asked for the best place to eat fish in Puerto Viejo, a seaside village on the Carribean coast, so I already had an expectation of freshly caught. What I got FAR EXCEEDED anything I could have dreamed of! I asked for the tuna, slightly seared, raw on the inside. I was blown away by what arrived... read more

Go there! Every day fresh-catched by Lazlo, fish to eat! If net's empty...the restaurant is close! Same thing when the fishes are finished-eaten by us...Restaurant closes!

Perfectly cooked fish caught fresh that day! What more could you ask for? The wasabi sauce on top was a great way to enhance the flavor of the tuna we had that day. Paired with grilled vegetables and yummy homemade fries, this meal was a real treat!

Fresh grilled tuna steak, caught that day. Thick-cut homemade fries with house wasabi mayo and grilled vegetables. A simple, deliciously prepared meal. This place is a treasure - a bit difficult to find, with no sign and just a few tables, a bar and an open kitchen in a cantina-like atmosphere, but if you're looking for some tasty, locally caught... Puerto Viejo's so called best seafood restaurant is an okay over- priced dinning place for the tourist trade. The bartender and owners son is quite a character whom I enjoyed watching making a fool of himself. When he's not profanely insulting customers into buying cocktails he is either yelling at his staff or trying to hit on women way out... More

This was the best tuna I've ever had! Locals had recommended Lazlo's as the best fish restaurant in town, and it was exceptional! We were told we would be served whatever was caught today, and the price would be about $15. It was a good fishing day and there were several choices, but my tuna was impressive for taste, and... This place had been recommended to us by locals and tourists, we're glad to finally get a table tonight as only 5. We had heard that the bartender ( owners son?) Had a character... After making a show trying to push us to buy cocktails he finished the night shouting and swearing at a fellow staff member that we later... More

We had an excellent dinner of Tuna and Swordfish but potential dinners should take note...the restaurant is very basic, small (about 5 tables) with room at the bar for about 5 people, the staff consists of the owner (a gregarious Hungarian), bar tender, cook and a waitress. When open, there is no sign...the restaurant is on the main road (dirt... More

The guys that run this place are literally living the dream. The work together to create the most fun atmosphere and bang out amazing food complimented by passionately and carefully created cocktails. Love the fact that there's no menu or price, just the catch of the day. A must if you're in town.

Lives up to the great reviews. No sign, no menu. They were serving one dish tonight, a fresh sea bass with grilled veggies and house-made french fries. Lazlo is a genuine host and treated our two little girls with great respect. He never rushed us even though folks were lining up down the block to get one of five tables.... More
