AMAZING!!!!

I can't believe a place this good exists off the beaten path in Costa Rica. I will never forget the food there and wish I was in Costa Rica a little longer to have had a couple more dinners there. TOP NOTCH!!

We heard about this place by our bed and breakfast host- down the street from this place. When we went, we were the only ones there. But it was the perfect romantic setting. Candlelit tables small intimate setting outside underneath a rotunda. It was dark so we couldn't see much else besides what was underneath the rotunda. Our food was... More

My wife and I own a second home in the area, and we always look forward to returning to El Refugio. "They say to eat red meat in moderation, so we save our cravings for Fernando's lucious steak with his fantastic chimichurri sauce that can not be duplicated. When not eating the steak...I always enjoy the Ahi Tuna medallions. Oh... More

Wow! If you want to propose to the one you love, do it there! It's a very romantic place, only 4 tables and the friendliest restaurant staff we have seen in Costa Rica. Everything was perfectly fresh! Even the nachos were freshly made (must try). The dishes are simple but delicious. The salmon and the beef were grilled to perfection.... More

Really gourmet food, wonderfully presented, in the jungle near the beach! Argentinian owner/chef, reflected in his chimichurra beef. also, perfectly prepared tuna. A poll of several locals all pointed towards this place, and it did not disappoint!

What a hidden gem! Right in the middle of the jungle beside a two lane road is a covered area with 4 tables and a kitchen. Have a seat and get a fabulous local drink. (I can't remember the name, but they will!) We had gnochi, chicken, steak and pork and everyone raved over their dish. The crepe dessert will... More

This very small restaurant (4 tables) is right beside the street in the middle of the forest. The ambience is breathtaking, as is the food! Since we visited El Refugio Grill in the off season, we were the only ones. I have to say, this is probably the nicest eating experience I've ever had in my live. As an appetiser... More

The atmosphere is perfect, the food is amazing, and the coffee is beyond perfect! Make sure to make a reservation because it's a small place but it is well worth it! I had the steak which was cooked to perfection and the brownie and ice cream with a coffee made my belly very happy!

Nice atmosphere & lovely service. Chips & guacamole fabulous. Salmon good but steak amazing. Potatoes cooked perfectly. Great bottle of wine. Only 2 bites left of our trip, seriously considering going again! It's that good!

Had a great meal with friends, the steak is amazing, well cooked and juicy and even a simple dish like guacamole and tortillas was particularly tasty. The owners are lovely too, service attentive but not overbearing. Nice wine selection as well.
