Lonely restaurant is fabulous

We took a wrong turn through the mountains and finally broke down to stop at night on our way to La Fortuna from SJO near Poas. This restaurant turned our back road mountain pass misery around. I had the escargot appetizer and rabbit stew in beer and prune sauce. The escargot was on point and the... read more

I went to the area on a family visit. I have to say that I was skeptical of eating at a French restaurant in the middle of nowhere. Was I proven wrong!!! What and exquisite experience! We sampled a variety of plates and all had a taste of home cooking. But when we got to dessert... we wept! They where... More

I live outside San Jose and when we are feeling adventerous and in need of a good meal we head up to Colbert's. If overpriced touristy restaurants are not your cup of tea then think outside the box and head to Colbert's. An unusual but quality dining experience awaits you. Try some of the bake goods to go on your... More

About an hour or so away from the city, this restaurant is a very surprising find. It's run by a very nice French chef who is also an excellent cook. We had paté and duck confit, and they were both delicious. The decoration is beautiful (though you can't tell from its relatively plain external appearance) and the presentation of the... More

I've eaten here a few times, and never been disappointed. The food is consistently excellent and the Chef/Owner even took pains to prepare a special meal for a family member with particular dietary needs... She said it was her best meal of the trip. I got a few life birds waiting for the food to arrive on my first visit,... More

Chef Monsieur Colbert is outstanding in his creations of authentic French cuisine. The scallops in the Coquilles St. Jacque are the best in Costa Rica and the Chateaubriand foe two is always done to perfection. A fantastic wine, liquor, and dessert selection make any meal a total delight. On clear days, a fantastic view of the Caribbean slope also awaits... More

Cold and foggy and lost. Happened on this restaurant with grandchildren and family in tow. The food was superb,French cuisine, fresh smoked bacon and ham, pate's and cheese plates to die for, not to mention the fresh French loaf..entrees were superb and the dessert trays a bit of heaven..all a grand experience for us all.

It was a cold wet and very foggy evening, but the restaurant had been recommended so we braved the awful weather. The dog was more welcoming than the chef/owner, and we were at first the only diners. Inside it felt very cold and we didn't take our coats off......lighting the stove would make a huge difference to the ambiance. We... More

Great view, very nice interior, great food. Very accomodating to our rather exacting diet (high fat, very low carb). Wonderful!

We came to Colbert by chance and it turns out the owners used to own a terrific restaurant in San Jose many, many years ago. They still have a wonderful cuisine. We didn't have a single issue with the time because we just wanted to relax and enjoy. Prices: just about right with all higher end restaurants in Costa Rica... More
