Beachfront Dinner

While I might not call this my favorite restaurant in the area, I will look back on the whole red snapper as one of the better meals I had in Costa Rica. The ambiance was great and exactly what we were looking for, dinner right on the beach with a comfortable breeze and waves in the background.

We dined here for my birthday dinner on our first night in Tamarindo and it was the best meal we had in town. Definitely recommend the "seafood for two" dish, it has everything you could ever want (lobster, shrimp, mahi mahi, tuna, mussels, in an amazing broth) and it's delicious! Also they have a great setting on the beach, and... More

Perhaps we hit a bad night, but I can't recommend this restaurant. One of our worst dining experiences anywhere in the world. While the setting is quite nice (tables on the sand, nice ocean and sunset views), there is just not enough else to justify dining here. Food: Poor to average at best, and no bargains on prices. Without doubt,... More

Our family of 9 went here for dinner on New Year's Day. This was our special night out as a family and we were overall disappointed. We were seated at a table in the sand with a couple of torches for lighting. We needed the lights from our phones to be able to read the menus. Service was slow and... More

We actually ended up in this restaurant a couple of times. The first time just by accident - they got us with their happy hour and we stayed for dinner. The dinner was excellent. We had seared tuna (best I ever had), red snapper and some other sea food. Everybody in our group loved the restaurant!

We stopped at La Palapa for sunset cocktails. It is one of the best places on the beach to watch the sunset. They have happy hour with a list of 2 for one cocktails. They were good and the service was very good. We didn't eat but the red snapper that came out to the table next to us look... More

William, or El Chappo as he is also known, is an amazing host. The rest of the staff were very attentive and friendly. But the FOOD! You will not be disappointed! The tuna tartar was to die for. So was the mahi mahi with pink sauce and shrimps. We went went back for the same meal two nights in a... More

I would not recommend this place. The food is just OK and pricey, the so called happy hour drinks amount to a glass of ice, some kind of juice, and a splash of alcohol. Really watered down. They quoted me a price for happy hour drinks which amounted to $22.00. When I got the bill it was for $48.00. Check... More

Like the previous reviewers, we too were scammed by the staff of La Palapa when a 'separate' bill for water was presented at checkout. It wasn't part of the dinner bill but a completely separate invoice, doubtful the payment ever made it to the cash register or the account books. . Be careful not to tip too generously, since a...
