I had the local tenderloin, my daughter had the chicken. Each meal was well presented, delicious, appetizer salads were nice size. Staff is most pleasant, attention to detail. Dined there twice. Bonus: 15% off bill for marriott platinum members

Hands down the BEST service and food at the resort and surrounding area. We were lavished with some of the most delicious food, jumbo shrimp appetizers, Costa Rican style steaks cooked to perfection, and delicious chocolate dessert. We could not have been happier to end our trip with this meal!

Enjoyed a special dinner here with a nice wine list - be careful of the up-sell on the wine special bottle. We ordered both the Angus beef and Costa Rican which the waiter correctly described as juicy but not as tender as Angus. Delicious bread brought to our table and apps were good - enjoyed the sauce the mussels were... More

What can I say? My head is still swimming over what happened at Sabanero. When we made the reservation, my girlfriend let them know that it was my birthday. When we arrived, there were some beautiful big balloons as well as glitter on the table. The steak itself was absolutely fabulous. I had the Kobe filet, and she had the... More

Have eaten here before - the food is unquestionably good (just as well considering the price) and the setting is OK but our view is that it is somewhat pretentious. The wine list, like in other restaurants at the Marriott is expensive and a little limited in choice. We had an enjoyable dinner here but we had better for less... More

We stayed at the JW Marriott and came here for our last dinner of our stay, the atmosphere and ambiance was that of a NY steak house and we appreciated the professionalism of the staff. My wife and I both ordered the local cut and it was cooked just as we ordered, the pricing wasn't bad and the steak was... More

The food was very good other than the actual steak. I am not a steak expert- doesn't take much to make me happy with one. All gristle and fat. Awful. Tortilla soup amazing. Great chicken. Described the apple dessert as apple pie- it was a muffin with ice cream. Terrible service. Never ask my 11 yo about drink. I ask... More

Dear Guest; First I would like to thank you for your comments and apologize for the flaws in the service directed to your daughter. Regarding the steak, Sabanero restaurant offers a variety of different cuts, some are very lean and others have the fat in which many cases our guest choose this type. The dessert reference as Apple Pie is... More

I was stunned at reading some of the previous reviews. We ate here last week and had a wonderful meal. The Kobe beef was cooked to perfection, delicious, and as tender as can be. The chef came out to greet us and even provided complimentary soup. Our waiter was friendly and. while very professional, had a good sense of humor.... More

We visited each restaurant at the JW, Santa Cruz or Guanacaste as we knew it. Sabanero was rated the best but did not earn that rating based on our dining experience. Three of the five steaks ordered were sent back immediately because they were not cooked properly. My wife's ribeye was poor quality as it was way too fatty and... More

Excellent food and service, a bit on the pricey side with a filet mignon at over $40 and wines in the $60 and above range - I understand that Costa Rica taxes imports and applies a consumption tax instead of having income tax - might explain it.
