My girlfriend and I went to El Ancla for a romantic beachside dinner while staying in Sámara. The server was amiable at first, but rarely checked to see if we needed anything, we waited 30 min after for our food after we ordered, my lobster was ok but overpriced and my girlfriend's burger was dull and flavorless. She didn't eat... More

Get the breaded shrimp, they are to die for. It was amazing food and we loved Ricardo, he was so nice and made us feel right at home.

We heard great reviews about this place, but my fish was terrible and my wife said her chicken tacos tasted bad as well. The one good thing was the fresh quac, the best I have ever eaten. I might go back for that, but otherwise...

An 80 meal for two plates of lobster and one glass of wine. Three small bites of lobster (rest was bad), drenched in bland sauce with dry rice and soggy veggies. Waiter was pleasant to start but was overwhelmed with his table service - we were a bother to the woman. Shine the bar to ask for a plate for... More

This is right on the beach, so it's a great setting. The veggies and rice and chicken and rice were amazing. We were in Samara for 2 weeks, and it might have been the best meal of all. Our server seemed to be annoyed every time we asked for anything, but that's not unusual for us with 3 active kids.... More

Hard to find from main road. It's at the front of the beach with sand floor. Great food and good for lunch and dinner.

we were delighted by the beachfront dining options at Playa Samara, and we thought this was the best of the five dining options we tried (Gusto's, Locanda, Tabanuco and Lo Q Hay). A local boat operator recommended, and the food was great, and the pricing was on the low end. The front of the restaurant looks low end, but the... More

This is a nice spot with a bit of a higher class menu (not just typical Tico food). Service was also very good.

Recommended to us locally, we had a lovely dinner in their beachfront area. It was quite busy, but the fish and shrimp both tasted really fresh - the best seafood we had in Costa Rica.

My parents and I went to El Ancla for lunch and to beat the hot afternoon sun. The seating is outside under the palms so has good sun protection. View of the beach is lovely (the restaurant is on the beach) and the atmosphere seemed hip. The ceviche with plantains was delicious! We tried 3 of their fish entrees -... More
