Went here for dinner. Ceviche was bland and rubber-tough. We didn't eat more than a bite or two. Mahi mahi with house special sauce wasn't much better -- fish tasted fishy and not fresh. Service was nonexistent. Waitress asked if the ceviche was bad, since we didn't touch it. We politely explained that it was too tough, and she said,... More

I'll be succinct, Ancla has decent food and reasonably priced for the touristy Papagayo area of Costa Rica. But the server we had must have downed too many cocktails the night before at the clubs lining the main drag in this touristy and tawdry beach town (think Ensenada or Tijuana Mexico). He was grumpy, surly, and frankly, the only Costa... More

We came here for dinner while staying at villas playa samara after hearing mediocre things about the resort food. This place was right off the beach (you could eat on the beach but I wanted to eat under a fan), with great views, quaint decor, attentive but not annoying service, and delicious food. There are a few vegitarian options here... More

They food is fine, the location is great right on the beach. If they went the extra mile with food, service and decor this would be THE place in Samara. They probably don't have to as the location alone automatically draws people or they are happy with what they are. Don't get me wrong, it's still a nice place to... More

I had dinner here on my last night after several locals recommended it for the seafood. They have a great menu selection, but the fish dishes are the best! And definitely go for the patacones and guacamole (fried plantains)!

My girlfriend and I went to El Ancla for a romantic beachside dinner while staying in Sámara. The server was amiable at first, but rarely checked to see if we needed anything, we waited 30 min after for our food after we ordered, my lobster was ok but overpriced and my girlfriend's burger was dull and flavorless. She didn't eat... More

Get the breaded shrimp, they are to die for. It was amazing food and we loved Ricardo, he was so nice and made us feel right at home.

We heard great reviews about this place, but my fish was terrible and my wife said her chicken tacos tasted bad as well. The one good thing was the fresh quac, the best I have ever eaten. I might go back for that, but otherwise...

An 80 meal for two plates of lobster and one glass of wine. Three small bites of lobster (rest was bad), drenched in bland sauce with dry rice and soggy veggies. Waiter was pleasant to start but was overwhelmed with his table service - we were a bother to the woman. Shine the bar to ask for a plate for... More
