Best steak ever

While the view is so-so if there is no room at the outside patio (as was the case for us), the steaks were excellent: tender, juicy, delicious. All of the steaks were large, but one of us had a filet mignon that was the size of a small roast! A Swedish family in a neighboring villa that had asked... read more

The VERY BEST seafood soup. I know we ate other menu items as well and were pleased. But the seafood soup takes the win on this menu!!! Absolutely delicious, a must try.

we had two fantastic dinners here. picturesque setting on the beach. i think their fish with house ancla sauce (uses banana, mango and pina) is the single best dish i had in our eight day trip--4000 colones with rice and salad. locally owned and operated. my wife and daughter also had great fish dinners--garlic sauce. of all the typical dinners... We come to Samara every year and love El Ancla. They are on the beach, so you can watch the surfers and boats come in as you eat your meal. They make mos f their dishes from scratch, after being ordered, so it takes longer, especially when they are busy. But it is worth the wait. We particularly enjoy the... More

My wife and I attended the monthly "First Friday" gathering. It is an event where anyone can attend and enjoy seeing old friends in the community and meeting new people. It occurs once a month and is hosted by a different venue each month. We are 2nd year snowbirds from Canada and have attended several of these events but El... More

I really enjoyed this beach front hotel, food was really good. I liked the atmosphere despite the heavy down pour that evening so we dined under the roof..

Went here for dinner. Ceviche was bland and rubber-tough. We didn't eat more than a bite or two. Mahi mahi with house special sauce wasn't much better -- fish tasted fishy and not fresh. Service was nonexistent. Waitress asked if the ceviche was bad, since we didn't touch it. We politely explained that it was too tough, and she said,... More

I'll be succinct, Ancla has decent food and reasonably priced for the touristy Papagayo area of Costa Rica. But the server we had must have downed too many cocktails the night before at the clubs lining the main drag in this touristy and tawdry beach town (think Ensenada or Tijuana Mexico). He was grumpy, surly, and frankly, the only Costa... More

We came here for dinner while staying at villas playa samara after hearing mediocre things about the resort food. This place was right off the beach (you could eat on the beach but I wanted to eat under a fan), with great views, quaint decor, attentive but not annoying service, and delicious food. There are a few vegitarian options here... More
