Fairly Authentic Bolognese Cuisine

On our second night in Guanacaste, we tried Villa Italia and had a very pleasant experience and wonderful meal. The pastas and sauces were all made on-premises and were excellent. We were served by the owner, a Bolognese ex-pat who seems to pride himself and running a rather tight ship. The... read more

The service was below averge ( yes the waiter is the owner who has an attitude). There were 14 of us and we all agreed that he was not happy to have customers. The pricing is okay but the portins that you get are very small and the taste is be below average. I will never waste my time going... More

The food was reasonable and the location quite nice. But the head waiter was arrogant to the point of disbelief. He apparently comes from the school that believes that diffident, surly service is the mark of a good restaurant. It isn't.

This place was recommended by locals and our tour guide. We originally went in on a Wed and our party of 14 was instantly seated, given menus, and napkins. 5 minutes later we were informed that we had no reservation and had to leave. They made us a reservation for Friday to return. We were told that people reserve tables... More

The setting is so enchanting, tiny white lights sparkling, beautiful white table cloths, the pool gurgling, delicious wine and amazing Italian fare. What more could a person ask for? The meal was superb, service exceptional, and the setting divine!

Villa Italia is a cute and romantic spot to take a date, your family or anyone you want to impress and have a fantastic meal with. The service is spectacular, Andrea and Susi (the owners) are very friendly and the food is always delicious. One of my favorite places in Coco! You must go!

This restaurant was so good that we ate here twice in 6 days. Everything we had was A-MAZ-ING!!!! The service can be slow since it seems as if the owner is also the server and bartender, and perhaps the Italian mama in the kitchen is the only person cooking everything. But it's worth the wait!

I think this is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. I am not a foodie by any means but this place was incredible. It is a small privately owned restaurant that sits back off of a dirt road behind some bushes. Don't let this hinder you. You walk around the bushes and are hit with a... More

Villa Italia is literally a hidden gem...150 meters down a dirt road behind a hardware and lumber yard, you would never find this place unless you had directions. And you will be surprised at how nice the restaurant setting is considering the approach to the property. But take the leap and give it a try...I am betting you will be... More

No, this restaurant does not deserve the praise from past reviewers. The service is not high-quality. Two servers for the entire restaurant could possibly be adequate if one of the servers wasn't continuously schmoozing with all the 'more important guests' (aka the Italian-speaking guests). We felt very ignored and rushed. The atmosphere is not overly impressive either. Yes, they have... More
