Amazing spot for lunch

We stopped here for lunch after the suspension bridges and before hiking in the national park. Extremely well located 1km from the park. Friendly staff. Nice atmosphere. The observatory rice was the best traditional dish we've had so far. Highly recommend it!

Driving back from the Mistico suspended bridges, we spied this spot along the road. Eduardo greeted us and offered to book some tours, but he was not pushy about it. We sat on the patio and saw coati, agouti and turkeys who enjoyed banana slices and tomatoes while we dined on delicious casados.

We heard about this restaurant from another family at our hotel. They had visited Cascajo's several times and loved it. We took our family of 6 (4 kids) to dinner. The setting is very informal (outdoor covered area), the server is quite friendly & accommodating, and the food is exceptional. We returned several times during our visit and loved it... More

We spotted this place from the road on the way to Tabacon. After a long day of travel all we wanted was a delicious dinner and Cascajo's del Arenal was exactly what we needed. It doesn't look like much from the road...up on a hill right before Tabacon with an old Coca Cola sign out front. When you walk up... More

I realize there are a lot of good reviews. Last night we ordered 4 orders to go. Everyone got sick! The rice was hard. The fish was smelly. This is NOT great food. It's only for Gringos that don't know any better. Normally we make our own food with kitchen supplies we bring from home. Burners, pots, plates etc. We... More

This was one of the best meals we had in Costa Rica! We had the arroz con pollo and the observatory rice - both so good. The garlic chicken is some of the best chicken I've ever had! Ask them for patacones con frijoles - a Costa Rican specialty! And there's a cute dog too! If you are in the... More

We went to Cascajo's on a whim while we were passing it on our way to/from our hotel and hiking in Arenal National Park. The food was great, and the service outstanding (though we were the only ones who stopped for lunch for quite some time). We got to see a coati up close, and the gardens in back were... More

This was our first stop on a 10 day Costa Rica tour and we loved it! The portions were huge, the owner super friendly and the resident coati and bird were a nice highlight. My son loved the ceviche and the grilled plantains were incredible.

We are so glad we decided to stop at Cascajo's for lunch! Located between Arenal Observatory Lodge and Tabacón Lodge/Hot Springs. Cascajo's is the place for amazing food, friendly people and a great view of the volcano- if no clouds. Uriel was our waiter and he was great and such a joy to be around. He took time to explain... Service was incredible, food was very very good, we loved the house special steak which had some weird sauce but was really tasty! They have a family of Coati in the jungle behind the restaurant which are super cute and friendly.
