Great Carribbean food

We wanted something different other than the traditional casados. We ventured off and found Samdix with one of the other hostel guests we had met. The food was great...spices were exceptional. The owner was very friendly.

service was excellent, food very tasty. went with my soon to be wife for dinner and returned on very next day for more. on first night I got rice and beans Caribbean style, served with fried bananas & pork chops on delicious salsa... my better half got fish. both with typical salad and fresh juice. not pricey at all.

I don't even know where to start. They seemed annoyed that we were even there despite no other customers being in the restaurant. My friend is a vegetarian and asked about options. They brought her a plate of vegetables. Just vegetables. Nothing else. I got the chicken and rice which is there "traditional" dish and recommended by our cab driver.... More

My husband and I ate dinner at SamDix. Big mistake! The owner/waiter bragged how good his specials and all his food is. We ordered the special and other chicken meal. The taste is awful and the meat (chicken ribs, legs, thigh- no chicken breast) is all very poor quality. The flavor is horrible and the service is bad. I won't... More

pros: -it's unique for the area - the patty was the best thing we got here cons: -fork was dirty -service was super super slow and it was not busy at all -a bit pricy for the area and the quality of food -due to the slow service, we just put the cash down and walked away since we didnt... More

Decided to try some Caribbean food after having enough of the gallo pinto standard fare. We went here for lunch and the food was really disappointing. Dix and his mother were very nice - high energy and welcoming so I was expecting some mouth watering meals.... not! The fried chicken was so DRY like it was just sitting waiting to... More

The owner is an interesting and fun guy to chat with. He's extremely committed to his business and is passionate about his food. We both ordered the chicken special and it was some of the best chicken I've ever had. The subtle addition of coconut to his caribbean rice was so tasty that I'm pretty sure I'm salivating while remembering... More

My wife and I had dinner here one night and enjoyed it. The food - Caribbean Chicken and picked fish - was good, but the best part was chatting with the owner, who was also the cook and the waiter. Very interesting guy, lots of fun to talk to. The meal was good and well priced. Highly recommended.

We went here hoping for some real Caribbean flavor, but left somewhat disappointed. While the chicken I ordered was more flavorful than some of the chicken dishes that I have had in Costa Rica, I thought it was a little overpriced for what we were given. The chips that came with the bean dip were sparse and kind of stale.... More

We checked this place out cause of the high reviews. Pretty basic really and slightly overpriced. A little more flavorful than standard tico food but twice as expensive. Civiche was pretty bland. Red beans and rice w chicken tasted fine but not much better than standard pinto. I think a lot of the reviews are so high here cause the... More
