Simple food, buy very cheap

This is the place where the locals go for lunch. It is not fancy, but fun. Nice service in Spanglish, and good food, very cheap ($4). The day I went was a crowd there, but I didn't wait that much. I like the place.

I got there recommended by a local and was a great option! I loved it, because the "casados" were great and I was hunger all the time in La Fortuna. The liver is my favorite!!!

This place was recommended to me by a stranger in a passing conversation. I'm glad I followed up and ate here. Great local food. I wish all of my meals were this good. The meat was flavorful, the gallos pintos were perfect.

We stumbled upon this Soda and were pleasantly surprised. Great food and an amazing value. We enjoyed eating at the local sodas and restaurants in Costa Rica. Skip the hotels and overpriced restaurants and enjoy an great meal for $6 USD.

Cheapest meal of the trip and very delicious. We both had casadas (seafood and fish) and I also had a banana milkshake. All delicious. FYI...to pay you go to the little glass booth. :-)

I had a yummy "casada pescado", a typical dish. It was $4 and quite filling. It had fried fish, rice, black beans, a green salad, deep fried plantains and deep fried water squash or "choyote." My boyfriend ordered, or tried to order a vanilla milkshake. I suspect he ordered the banana. It was yellowish and tasted like banana-flavored Laffy Taffy.... More

I highly recommend this place. You'll have to be looking for it to find it but it's worth it. Both of us had plenty to eat and the total bill was less than $10. And there are lots of locals eating there.

Although they knew limited English, our meal was served pretty quickly. Can't beat the price! And a great plus for location - right next to a bus terminal & supermarket!

We stayed close to La Fortuna for 10 days and we tried a lot of the restaurants. Soda Hormiga was our favorite soda. Doesn't have the best location (lots of trucks driving by), but they have excellent service, terrific atmosphere and the place was always busy with mostly Ticos (always a good sign). The menu is in Spanish and English... More
