Cheap and yummy!

Cheapest meal of the trip and very delicious. We both had casadas (seafood and fish) and I also had a banana milkshake. All delicious. FYI...to pay you go to the little glass booth. :-)

I had a yummy "casada pescado", a typical dish. It was $4 and quite filling. It had fried fish, rice, black beans, a green salad, deep fried plantains and deep fried water squash or "choyote." My boyfriend ordered, or tried to order a vanilla milkshake. I suspect he ordered the banana. It was yellowish and tasted like banana-flavored Laffy Taffy.... More

I highly recommend this place. You'll have to be looking for it to find it but it's worth it. Both of us had plenty to eat and the total bill was less than $10. And there are lots of locals eating there.

Although they knew limited English, our meal was served pretty quickly. Can't beat the price! And a great plus for location - right next to a bus terminal & supermarket!

We stayed close to La Fortuna for 10 days and we tried a lot of the restaurants. Soda Hormiga was our favorite soda. Doesn't have the best location (lots of trucks driving by), but they have excellent service, terrific atmosphere and the place was always busy with mostly Ticos (always a good sign). The menu is in Spanish and English... More

We had passed by Soda Hormiga several times and finally went into this busy gem where we feasted on delicious Cosada. This was my husbands's first time ordering Cosada and he was not disappointed! They were extremely busy and had run out of chicken early but with plenty of other items to choose from we were more than happy!

For $4 per plate we had one of the best casada tipicas on our trip. We stopped in for lunch and had one with chicken and one with beef, beans and rice completed the meal with a drink of tamarindo and pineapple. Great cheap quick tasty lunch spot!
