The experience was very good overall-- the only thing that I could say negatively about Monteleone was that the food took slightly longer than I hoped for to arrive at the table. I ordered the Pollo al Chipotle, and it tasted exquisite-- one of the best meals I have had in recent memory. The owner (who served us) was consummately... More

We went to this spot based on the reviews on Trip Advisor and the closeness to our airport hotel. The waiter recommended the tenderloin with mushroom sauce and it was the worst piece of meat that I have ever been served in a restaurant for the price ($20). I can't believe that someone rated this as a favorite! The mushroom... More

We had a great dinner at Monteleone Restaurant. The owner was very engaging and informative. He spoke English well (to me, since I speak no Spanish) and obligingly spoke Spanish with my husband and son. The food was good Costa Rican fare. Local beers were on hand as well as wine and liqueurs. We recommend this small eatery!

Our group was sent here by a hotel owner (Charley's just down the street) with a free drink voucher. The drink was delicious- made with fresh fruit. Ronald, the owner of this restaurant was very entertaining! I had the vegetarian casado, filling and delicious. At the end of our meal we were presented with a beautiful fruit dessert dish. Highly... A great little dinner spot just a few blocks off of Alajuela's Town Square. We had an amazing tenderloin w/ mushroom sauce and a wonderful, light and tasty sea bass with a shrimp cream sauce. Not cheap - backpackers beware - but it was one of the best meals we had all month.

I stayed one night in Alajuela before taking my flight in the morning. This restaurant was recommended by the hotel, and i was not disappointed. The waiter was very nice and frindly, spoke english and a bit of French. We felt very welcomed. The food was good, maybe a bit expensive, but we were very happy overall! I would definetely... More

We have dinner and we eat lomito and pescado. Pescado is good, quantity is ok but there's a lot of "salsa blanca" covering real taste of the pescado. the meat tasted like our stew, very nervous. with average cooking even more nervous. the only good thing was the mushroom sauce that accompanied the meat and save the final vote.

we stayed 3 nights in alajuela and returned to monteleone's every evening. Very helpful personnel made us feel at ease to choose whatever we would like. It's basically a small place where you can have a drink and chat, and then extend your stay into eating.

A word of warning. We tried to eat dinner here on a weeknight around 9pm. We arrived by taxi to find the place closed for the night. Granted there are few places still open in sleepy Alajuela on a weeknight in the off season but I found this a bit disappointing.
