It is such a beautiful place on Julu Lu . Interior could easily be in a trendy Italian modern trattoria in Greenwich Village or NoLita in New York City. The menu shows an educated Italian thoughtful combination of refined traditional but still "beyond mainstream 101 Italian" Northern Italian cuisine . With this combination we where full of hope . But... More

As a reasonably regular visitor to Shanghai I have been to several high quality Italian restaurants in the city. For me, this one stood out for the very high standard of service. Everyone was very attentive, from the Philippino waitresses to the considerate Genovese manager. The food was very good and there was a wide variety of Italian wines including... More

My friend and I are in Shanghai for a quick two days staying at the Hilton very close to Casanova. As we've been in China for over a week, we asked the concierge for a good non-Chinese restaurant. This one delivered on both points! The manager, Dominico, and the staff were extremely attentive to us. We were served a glass... More

We stopped here because one of the folks in our party did not prefer to have any more Chinese food. We were not disappointed at all. They have a good menu with a variety of optons and the food was true Italian. All of us enjoyed our meals. I had pizza and it was outstanding....think crust and left you wanting... More

My husband and I have lived in Shanghai the past 7 years, and this is my favorite place. We are regulars every Saturday for the set lunch special. The new chef creates a different menu every week, so we never are bored. The staff is top notch and we are always treated like royalty. Vast selection of wines and reasonably... More

Despite its reputation, this restaurant was recommended by our concierge. It was a serious disappointment. They tried to upsell us on the wine, the service was poor and one of the entrees in our party of four never arrived -- ever! The food was OK, but nothing spectacular. And, the restaurant was over-priced. Stay away until they get their act... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighborhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
