It is good when some things never change.

And that is how it is with the Yi Cafe at the Pudong Shangri-La in Shanghai, China. My wife and I were fortunate to live in Shanghai for 10 years before repatriating to Australia in July. Have been coming here for 15 years. The same menu (pretty much) and same manager. The price hasn't gone up much either. By far the best buffet in this town, my humble opinion.

Yi Cafe has the best breakfast among all the hotels I've stayed. The selection is eclectic with Chinese, ASEAN and continental cuisine branching into different sections. Amazing waxberry also.

The restaurant is busy and feels like a market, so don't go there for a quiet lunch. But if you want a large selection and great variety of food Yi Café is the place to go. A huge buffet, great taste, you can eat until you drop. It doesn't come cheap but definitely value for money, one of the best... More

We absolutely love Yi Cafe, and it's been on our short list of favorite restaurants in Shanghai for years. The host and team and always welcoming and spot on, and the food is delightful. Our first stop is always the Indian section - delicious! We appreciate that we can invite anyone to join us for a meal at Yi Cafe,... More

As far as buffets go, this is probably the pinnacle for me. As my belly will attest, I have eaten buffets all over the world, and none has come close to beating this on variety or service. There are several stations - dessert, ice cream, chocolate fountain, salad, sushi, pasta, western gastronomy, traditional chinese and middle eastern. The quality is... More

What a treat - fantastic buffet! Sushi was fantastic. Expensive but worth it. We loved the variety of cuisines on offer - something for every taste.

This was highly recommended to us - so we had to go. It is a fantastic buffet. We travelled by train to and walked around the financial district before dinner. The reception, service and visit and chat from the Austrian Manager was crisp and refined. The wine was French from Alsace - excellent Pinot Blanc. We started with sushi and... More

Staying in Lujiazui

Neighborhood Profile
Lujiazui
When people speak of Shanghai’s futuristic skyline, it’s the financial district of Luiazui they are speaking of. Shanghai’s most iconic buildings are located in close proximity to Lujiazui’s elevated ring road and swanky eateries. Sky-high shopping and chic bars fill the highrises around the area. As is characteristic of a world-class financial business district, some of Shanghai’s best malls and hotels can be found in the neighborhood. While everyone on the famous Bund side of the river gazes in awe at these amazing structures, all the buildings here, as well as Lujiazui’s riverside promenade, offer great views of the historic buildings all along the Puxi side. The Lujiazui park often hosts music festivals throughout the year, and park goers can party and stroll in the shadow of some of the world’s tallest buildings.
