We went there basically for the Peking duck and we were not disappointed. Well prepared and beautifully presented, the duck was lean and perfectly succulent and delicious. The room was lovely and service excellent. Definitely worth the trip. Stop by the hotel bar on the top floor for an amazing view I the bund and pudong.

We went to xindalu for lunch and preordered the 1/2 duck. We were told the duck would be ready at 12:30 so we got to the restaurant on time but we were only served the duck after 1. They did apologise with a small dish of cold vegetable. When the duck arrived we were served the tiniest portion. The meat... More

Food here and the particularly the duck is well cared for. Try the xindalu fried rice and the bamboo pith mushroom soup. Came out piping hot full of flavor and paced for at the end of the meal which is the perfect cap to dinner before dessert. It's an open kitchen and this causes lots of "wok" noise. Beware. Service... We have been here each summer for the last 6 years for the Beijing duck -- which continues to be the star and main draw. So the duck remains excellent, but service was a bit brisk as they rushed the duck to us before I could even order appetizers or the wine. We ordered a Trimbach gerwertz that arrived room... More

The duck is just awesome. Best duck ever. The rest of the menu was good but the duck just stole the show. Prices were reasonable and we'll definitely be coming back again. Do reserve the duck in advance

Yes, the duck is really good - there's no doubt about that! And there's plenty of other great-tasting dishes too. The room looks nice, is spacious and based on our previous visits, experience tells us not to sit adjacent to the opening of the kitchen - it's where one of the cooks always chops and chops and is just too... Yes, the Beijing Duck was good, although much on a par with that in other top Chinese restaurants. I enjoyed the sweet and sour ribs and an excellent spicy prawn dish ordered by my business guest. This is excellent quality Chinese food. But it slightly lacks the 'wow" factor. Recommended though.

Having dined on Peking duck at Lao Beijing a couple of nights ago, we wanted to try an upmarket version and heard that Xindalu has one of the best around. And the Peking duck was truly excellent, with crispy skin and succulent meat. One of the chefs will slice the skin and meat at table side. The pancakes were also... More

We booked a table before our trip and, fortunately, mentioned that we were going to have their famous duck. Xindalu is very proud to serve a Hangzhou beggar's chicken (which we did not try). Both meals should be ordered at least two days in advance! So we had mix starter for two (which included marinated jelly fish - interesting, but... More

I read about the award winning Peking Duck here and decided the I had to try some while visiting Shanghai! So I made a reservation online from the UK before travelling to Shanghai and filled out a form to provide credit card details and secure my booking. On arrival, we were sat down, provided with our menus - the atmosphere... More
