Lively late-night crowd

I stopped in at about 11pm, and there was a band playing The Beatles - quite amusing, as the band was chinese, and did a good job! An unusual sight for an American. :) The beer was good - they noted that it was locally brewed. Service was OK, but a little slow at the bar, beer cold. Not... read more

This Paulaner on the Pudong side is in a prime spot. I stopped in for a beer on beautiful Sunday afternoon. The beer is good, the food, which I would guess is as good as the Paulaner in Xintiendi, is solid and typical German comfort food. Great outdoor seating by the river with great views of the Bund. The service... More

We have been living for more than 3 years in China - moved over after 8 years Munich...! It was an amazing time - but sometimes you want to have good German kitchen. And therefore the Paulaner @ the Bund Shanghai is really great! The mixture between traditional German food and Chineses dishes are great! And the beer is perfect... More

I somehow always end up in one of the Paulaners in Shanghai so this case was no different... It is good stuff if you like I want to have something from my central Europe cuisine as opposed to duck tongue or deer tendon after a week of having them. The sausages with sauerkraut and mash were OK - good taste-wise... More

Awesome location for a beer garden/ restaurant overlooking the river and Bund. Unfortunately that's about the only reason to visit this branch of the Paulaner. You know there's a problem when the three beers you've ordered are delivered in under 1 minute.. warm and flat. Looks like they pour them and leave them sitting around for someone to order. We... I have visited Paulaner around half a dozen times during last few years. Here the pros and cons. The pros: -superb view on Huangpu river and Shanghai -outside seating area is good place to relax and watch nearby ships and touristboats -their beers are good. Wheat beer is awesome! -Wiener schnitzel is good and big enough -service is usually ok... More

The view, was of course beautiful, the food, not so good. The service was so-so, but it was very busy. If you want something "Western", I guess this would suffice, but it isn't wonderful. Like any other establishment offering foreign fare, it is expensive. A great place to have a beer and chat with friends, but enjoy quality cuisine? I'd... More

Eat outside for the excellent view of the river and city, especially when the Bund and tourist boats light up at night. Beer is excellent and food is good. Maybe a little pricey, but it's a welcome break from Chinese food all the time.

People will argue that it's not German, but who cares? The beer and food are good! And plenty of it. A vibrant place to relax and take in the youth of Shanghai. Very well run premises and a change from the norm. It's not cheap but loads of fun and is a must place to visit. Personally, highly recommended.

Staying in Lujiazui

Neighborhood Profile
Lujiazui
When people speak of Shanghai’s futuristic skyline, it’s the financial district of Luiazui they are speaking of. Shanghai’s most iconic buildings are located in close proximity to Lujiazui’s elevated ring road and swanky eateries. Sky-high shopping and chic bars fill the highrises around the area. As is characteristic of a world-class financial business district, some of Shanghai’s best malls and hotels can be found in the neighborhood. While everyone on the famous Bund side of the river gazes in awe at these amazing structures, all the buildings here, as well as Lujiazui’s riverside promenade, offer great views of the historic buildings all along the Puxi side. The Lujiazui park often hosts music festivals throughout the year, and park goers can party and stroll in the shadow of some of the world’s tallest buildings.
