Awesome alternative brunch spot!

The very large and spacious restaurant is inside this residential compound so it's not exactly somewhere you'll just walk in from off the street. But if you're looking to try some different brunch options besides your standard eggs benedict, look no further! It's not authentic Mexican food but more like authentic Tex-Mex and it is SOLID. The restaurant is located inside a compound on Julu Lu. They have a small lounge at the entrance of the restaurants. Grab a drink there before you move the table. The food is really good. It's spicy, it's Mexican. It's very nice place for dinner with friends. I love the atmosphere: the restaurant is not too dark or too bright.... More

The food here is the answer to all your Mexican cravings. It's fresh and the menu has enough options even for a vegetarian! The ambience is contemporary but the food is certainly traditional by taste. The service is prompt and the staff is warm. Certainly a good experience and a must visit when in Shanghai.

This place has good food and good ambiance. I visited here because of a friend's birthday. Surprisingly, the food were all well presented and well seasoned. One downside is that we had to take a cab to get to this place. Try this place if you're craving for Mexican food while in Shanghai.

I live in Shanghai and its safe to say Maya is one of the top experiences of this city. Absolutely fantastic and interesting food. Great ambiance and terrific service. Location is a bit strange inside an apartment compound but once inside all that is forgotten by warm welcomes and a great Margaritas. Try the Maya Casserole and the turkey tamales.... More

Really good nouveau Mexican food in Shanghai. We went based upon a recommendation and were very pleasantly surprised as we have not found good Mexican style food in China. We ordered tacos off the brunch menu, ended up ordering more, and then topped it all off with churros. Not much english spoken, but not necessary and this place is out... More

We ate at this restaurant last week when we were in Shanghai. We tried the mango salad which was nice as well as the soft shell tacos. The margherita was also pretty good. We ordered a lot of the appetisers as main course like the quesedillas which was also nice. What i missed was a nachos selection.... they and chips... More

Staying in Jing'an

Neighborhood Profile
Jing'an
The heart of this neighborhood is the Jing'an Temple, while the main artery of excitement and entertainment is West Nanjing Road. Close to the Former French Concession, the area has a similar draw for foreign residents but displays a more commercial character. Large, flashy malls, luxe residential high-rises and trendy nightlife areas can be found along West Nanjing Road, but areas off the busy street have the same quiet cafes and independent boutiques that many people think of as distinctive of the Former French Concession. Jing'an is less encased in amber, though, and it's possible to immerse yourself more fully in the energy of China's most bustling metropolis here.
