Does Not Qualify for "Best French Restaurant".

I was here during shanghai restaurant week and it was named the "Best French Restaurant" which can't be correct. I ordered the smoked salmon, turbot fish roll, and slow cooked red wine pear. The food was just alright - fairly plain. They use a lot of "foam" and the flavours were just too light for... read more

This is not a French restaurant anymore. It is very well marketed as French restaurant and they abuse their past position and former owner's image. It is now managed, cooked and served the Chinese way. BTW, you alos have only Chinese customers that only want to enjoy the décor, not the food. Food is expensive, average and cooking styled is... Mister Pourcel, you'd better check the quality of your restaurants around the world. They make you a very bad reputation. This is certainly not the "Best French Restaurant " in Shanghai. Definitely not at the level of one Michelin star. Expensive, mediocre food and bad service. Of course none of the Pourcel brothers is in the kitchen, but the Chef... More

Bought a Travelzoo voucher for a 4 course dinner for 2 here. The building entrance to the restaurant is pretty shoddy but on arrival on 8th floor that improved. Things are showing wear an tear though and an absence of TLC. I had an uncovered floor socket next to my chair. Few tables with Family groups/small children crying and playing... More

Very very disappointed. Building entrance is horrible, food is not good, ingredients were not so fresh, overcooked and meals arrived cold or not so Warm. Wines were correct but that is all. And i forgot, flowers on the table were dying already with dried leaves! Not a good sign! Freres Pourcel, you would really to take an action, this restaurant... More

Maison Pourcel used to be where MM Bund is today, but they didn't make enough money to be able to keep the address. They have a smaller dining room now in another part of Puxi which can be really nice especially in the evening when you have a view of the sky over your head if you are near the... More

I've never left a comment on any website, but after spending my Christmas Eve Dinner 2014 in the restaurant Table of Maison Pourcel, I felt compelled to warn future customers about this restaurant. In all honesty, this was the worst restaurant experience that I ever had to go through in my entire life. From the booking to the bill, it... More

We had dinner at Maison Pourcel tonight and we are both disappointed. As we were traveling to shanghai for the weekend we decided to book dinner there and the evening did not go as well as we thought. First we waited a very long time before we had our appetizers (30min). We had some nibbles from the kitchen but the... More

We had a big group of lunch. The setting was classic, but you can see the restaurant has worn out and details are not done properly. Using the Michelin name as the group doesn't mean they are good, if anything an embarrassment. Table setting was not done properly, table cloth was not ironed or had holes in it. Service that... I had lunch over restaurant week with two friends and we really loved the beauty of the food. It was tasty although expect small portion sizes. It is a bit pricey but the view was good and the food quality was high.

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighborhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
