We are Hongkongers and we often have Shanghai cuisine in Hong Kong. We thought we could have "more genuine" Shanghai cuisine in Shanghai. We wrongly believed a well-known food critic, and we went to this restaurant. To be fair, there were two restaurants in Shanghai bearing the name Jishi (吉士), one is Xinjishi (新吉士) (meaning "New" Jishi) and the other... More

Terrible food, terrible service & too expensive considering the poor quality. We ordered a few expensive dishes of beef fillet & seafood & they were a total let down. Shanghainese food I'm Melbourne costs half of this and 10 times better!! Please don't waste your holiday experience on this awful place

Husband and I came here for lunch during our Shanghai stay, location is very conveniently situated in the posh xintiandi area, decor is nostalgic old Shanghai feel, waiters mainly are young guys of average service, non-friendly and expressionless on their faces, food is good but far from excellent, we had some basic Shanghainese dishes, such as steam eggs with clams,... This was the best Chinese food I had in Shanghai. The food is outstanding and serve efiiciently by young Shanghainese waiter. The service is efficient and serve family style.I would recomend the Grand mother pork, the fish head deep fried with green onion, the prawn and the chicken fried with red Chili, the red date filled with sticki rice. the... I have been invited to this place by some Client and I was hoping to enjoy another good meal. I was wrong. the place is located is a very posh area of the city yet it seems to be made to rob the customers. Service is really poor and the food is also among the worst I ever had in... More

Local Shanghainese friends brought us to this restaurant, which we enjoyed a great variety of dishes, starting with the cold appetizers, then hot appetizers then other main dishes. Even the roasted peanuts in seaweed dust was amazing. Love the beancurd in crabmeat sauce, the smoked fish (a specialty dish in Shanghai), abalone in soup, lotus root stuffed with sweet sticky... Our hotel staff recommended this restaurant which we would never have found otherwise and we were lucky he got us a reservation. It is busy busy and loads of fun, authentic Shanghai food so be warned, lots of chilli (we had a cold chicken in chilli 'soup' dish which was too die for) and as it was crab season we... More

This is for the Xuhui District branch (No.28 Taojiang Rd.) Located in a trendy section of the French Concession (near the American Embassy), this is more than just a pretty face. The food is exceptional. We loved the Scallion Pancakes, Crabmeat Dumplings, Grandma's Braised Pork in Brown Sauce, Shrimp & Crab entree, and Bok Choy with Mushrooms. The service was... More

Been coming here for 9 years. Standard has been maintained. Best dish is Xie fen fen pi (crab roe with bean noodles). Typical Shanghainese cuisine with the requisite fat in the pork dishes. Reservations necessary unless you're willing to wait.
