Not an Obvious Choice But One You Should Make

Reasonably priced and good food. WE had a really nice meal which comprised most of the Indian spectrum. Great nan, huge prawns and our Chinese companions (Indoan virgins) loved the really spicy curries ordered for them. Good range of drinks and once your food is served they leave you alone. Recently revamped. Definitely worth a try.

I've been to a few Indian Restaurants in Shanghai, and they vary from poor to average. This one, however, is really good. It's a very small place, and you have to walk through a bar to get to it, but the food is excellent and the owner is a great host. There is a good selection of vegetarian food as... More

We had dined at better Indian restaurants in Shanghai. Menu in particular had nothing different than the usual North Indian dishes. Food was below average . Kids liked the place as one of the staff entertained with a magic show . Will not recommend if you are looking for a nice Indian food.

The worst person ever encounter, you should go if you are a caucasian, else no guarantee that you will get any service here. No good indian test or hospitality for Indian people.

This restaurant is on the 1st floor and accessed via stairs in the ground floor pub. Once upstairs, the restaurant is quite narrow, and appears a little dark and untidy. The food however, was good. My starters, samosas with a little chickpea curry were excellent, and the vindaloo didn't disappoint either.

Nice cosy restaurant. The couple managing the restaurant were friendly. Food was good. We ordered chapati and vegetables it was good. Except samosa chat which was just ok and had Chinese masala in it

I went to this restaurant to try given the feedback but was not very pleased with the restaurant. entrance is a narrow one through a bar, the restaurant is not insulated for winter and it is pretty cold inside. food was at best average and am doubtful about the alcohol i had there

In a cold weather temperature in Shanghai, a friendly owner welcomed me and just like that I can already feel the warm of the place. I ordered a butter naan bread, butter chicken, briyani rice and the owner suggested a cup of rose tea which I added to my order. And here are my review of the food: - the... More

This wonderful little restaurant is right across the road from the Hilton. It was brilliant. I ended up going back twice. The food is Northern Indian and is fresh, spicy and typical. I cannot speak highly enough of the place and the price is about half of what you would pay for a restaurant inside the Hilton and about twice... More

I am foodie and would always look for a good restaurant. I missed Indian food for 6 days as I never had time to find an Indian restaurant during my stay at Hilton. My wife from India found out about Kaveen's Kitchen and told me to visit them. It's bang opposite to Hilton (30-mtrs). I just loved the food I... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighborhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
