Traditional Shanghainese Dishes

The location and setting of the restaurant is in an old traditional house with traditional house setting adorned with antiques. One dish that amazed me the most was the garlic oil noodles. Simple to make but horribly difficult to master. Fu's rendition of it is a master piece by itself. Ask... read more

Fantastic old converted house comes with furniture adds a great historic setting to this place. Real, traditional Shanghainese food that you'll struggle to find elsewhere. Flourdough soup with yellow fish was excellent as was the jellyfish, and seaweed pastries.

We were able to book a table with one day's notice. All the dishes turned out great - my favorite was youbaoxia (quick stirred fried shrimp). The sauce for this dish is quite unique. Every dish was perfectly executed and presented. My dear friend treated us so I have no idea how much this meal cost. But my understanding is... More

I enjoyed the food here but what I remember most was the environment - this is a grand old house and the restaurant area is full of Old Shanghai atmosphere and is very spacious. The building, with its garden could almost be an attraction in itself, albeit perhaps hard to find the first time. I was also most impressed with... More

We were taken to this restaurant by a local food writer and really enjoyed the food. The restaurant is in old villa, with an unmarked entry so you need clear directions on how to find it. We were served dish after dish delicately flavoured, interesting food including chicken in rice wine, honey red dates stuffed with glutinous rice flour, mandarin... More

The location in an old villa is great, and the private dining room at the very top one of the most romantic in all of Shanghai. The food here is more classical than at Fu1015, and things such as the 熏鱼 (smoked fish),红烧肉 (braised pork belly) are some of the best in town.

Shanghai has a growing list of popular (and celebrity) chefs. And near the top of both lists is Tony Yu, who recently created the menu for the Mandarin Oriental in Pudong. I had one of the most amazing fish dishes I’ve ever had at that restaurant and thought it would make sense to try one of chef Yu’s original restaurants.... More

Located in one of the refurbished old villas in a discreet lane, it can be a little difficult to locate (not a big issue if one is equipped with Baidu Maps), food is of good portion, pricing and quality and ambience is good. It was a cool night but restaurant felt a little warm. Enjoyed the food, especially the smoked... More

Fu 1039 is not easy to find, though its name helps. Located inside an alley at No.1039 on Yuyuan Road, there is no signboard or banner showing the name of the restaurant neither on Yuyuan Road or the alley. It reflects the confidence of its owner/operator to rely instead on words of mouth to promote its business. Customers would need... More

Housed in an old colonial bungalow, this wonderful restaurant is the perfect place to go for authentic shanghainese cuisine. Their specialty, smoked fish, stewed tender pork, drunken chicken is a must try. The old colonial ambience coupled with shanghainese food served in simple but elegant platings makes this outlet indeed a wonderful option. Be transported to the era of yesteryears.
