Delicious

The service was OK though not great. They did not have 2 of the dishes we tried to order, but nonetheless it was a great meal. The prices were reasonable, especially considering the neighborhood, and the restaurant itself is beautiful and peaceful. They charged us extra for wet napkins that we... read more

this is the best place for vegetarians who want to eat veg Chinese food, which is very difficult to find in China. Even KFC Mcdonalds or Burger King don't serve veg food. but I loved this place which served mock meat and during my 5 day trip to shanghai i ate 4 meals here and each meal was different. Only... We went for lunch on Friday at 2 PM. It is very conveniently located off People's Square and right next tot he JW Marriott. And came highly recommended. At 2 PM, when we wanted the spring rolls or the steamed dumplings -- we were told they were not available! The rest of the items were all fried or soaked in... More

Although the service is not so good from these old Shanghai local waitress but I still highly recommend this restaurant which provide traditional Shanghai taste in vegeterian style. You can't image how the chef cook them. The dished looks normal food (chicken, fish, crab.....) but the materials are collected from vegetables. Amazing....................!! Don't miss it during your trip Shanghai.

We dined in here once. Located just behind the West Nanjing road, very close to the West Nanjing metro station. The atmosphere inside restaurant is very nice if you are sitting upstairs or to the left of the entrance. Service is pretty good. Menu lacks pictures. I noticed some of the other restaurants show the Chinese, English name of the... More

Gong de Lin (Godly) is my favourite place in Shanghai, I have been there at least 5 times now and have not really been disappointed there. The staff might not be the most friendly (or speak any languages other than Chinese), but at least they know which of their food is vegan and can advise you what to order. My... More

They do some great 'fake meat' dishes a lot of which are soya derivatives. But given that no animals have been harmed in the making of dinner, it's quite good fun experimenting with gizzards and innards and offal and other unmentionables.

We ate here on our first night in Shanghai. The staff were as helpful as could be but the food wasn't anything special. We ordered 3 different dishes but each one basically tasted the same and had been cooked in way too much soy sauce.

We found this place after a 12 hour flight and about a 20 minute walk from our hotel on East Nanjing Road. It was great. We were welcomed upstairs and were shown to a window table. A waiter who spoke English helped us select from the extensive menu. We ordered 3 dishes and rice, which was just the right amount... More

Staying in People’s Square

Neighborhood Profile
People’s Square
People’s Square brings with it all the excitement you would expect from the town square of one of the biggest cities in the world. The area around People’s Square and People’s Park is always a abuzz with activity. Oceans of local and foreign tourists flow in and out of the area every day to see grand museums, go shopping and eat at some of Shanghai’s most storied food centers. Shanghai residents, meanwhile, live and work in the many residential and office high-rises. While much of Shanghai stays busy late into the night, this really is an area that never sleeps with glitzy nightclubs keeping people up until the wee hours of the morning.
