This is a very new up scale Italian restaurant in a block that must have at least a dozen upscale and new restaurants. The service was excellent, the food excellent and the atmosphere very comfortable. It has many small rooms so the noise level is perfect for conversation in a group. Try it, you'll be impressed.

Pane e Vino moved to 思南公館 now. My favorite is their Truffle pizza, thin crispy crust Roman style and the fragrance is intoxicatingly addictive. Go there and you will find many other pleasant surprises!

Stopped here for an early dinner on Sunday night. The restaurant is at Sinan Mansions near the junction of Fuxing Rd and Sinan Rd. The interior is compact, but there is also a terrace behind the restaurant. I had the bruschetta, followed by spinach and ricotta ravioli. Service was prompt, and both courses were excellent.

Authentic Italian food cooked by Italian chef Antonio, helped by his lovely wife and pleasant friendly staffw. Pizzas to die for. Thin crispy base with lots of delicious topping. Excellent lamb chops and linguine. Good wines and prices that don't break the bank.

I went here with a friend for a change in atmosphere. WE found it to be a nice italian restaurant. The bread served was excellent witht eh vinegar and olive oil to start. We had the bruschetta which was very tasty (four pieces with big heaps of bruschetta). I had the linguine with clams in a light white sauce. It... More

I have had dinner twice with different friends. The spinach ravioli is excellent! It may be a little pricey, but well worth it! The second time, we tried their bruschetta and was better than any I have had in the past. Service both visits was excellent!

Location is nice, but lack atmosphere. The staff is far from a sufficient level and for the service u receive far the price u pay. An adviser: more training on staff. Chef ok.

Nice ambiance and setting, service was friendly and accommodating and all in all we had a nice experience in the Pane e Vino. Pizza quality was excellent but the Vitello Tonato was disappointing (not thinly sliced, too much and tasteless tuna sauce and missing capers). The main dishes were good and enjoyed by all and also the shared dessert was... More

Great Italian food, comes in small quantities. Good when you are celebrating something or have guests. Not a place to go regularly unless you want to spend a lot of money. I really like the food here but the quantity keeps getting smaller and they do not even give you a cup of water. You need to pay for it.

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighborhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.
