Odd place....Very clean, very spacious, kinda elegant. Food prices are a bit high, but food is decent. I think the decor is so sparse and this is what steals from the typical "cozy" vibe that restaurants usually have. I had read past reviews on here about slow service and staff saying they'd been super=busy beforehand, and the same thing happened... More

Stayed at Hampton Inn across the street and after the first meal, we felt the best at Orange Beach and ate there 2 more times. Service, quality, friendliness and choice of meals, made us Iimmediately make arrangements to come back.

Gilbey's (was Zen) is merely average as a steak and seafood restaurant. We had loved Zen a year ago when a large family group went. This time selection limited. Service was spotty and slow considering the place was far from full and lots of staff standing around. Loud music incongruent with fine dining (as prices suggest). Sea scallops had a... More

under the same ownership with much of the same menu. The owners wanted to highlight that their restaurant was NOT merely a sushi or Asian fusion place. Therefore they changed their name to Gilbey's. They decided to keep a number of their original dishes but added American dishes such as steak & fish. I have a challenge with restaurants that... More

Zen was one of our favorite restaurants, but we noticed that they never seemed to be very busy. Perhaps that's why they changed from Zen, with an Asian fusion emphasis to Gilbey's, with a seafood and steak theme. The ownership remains the same. They retained a few of our favorites from the old menu, including two of our favorites, chorizo... More

Ordered Scallops served in on a bed of Sweet Pea Risotto. The scallops were cooked perfectly, but over salted on the bottom. The risotto was not creamy nor fully cooked and rather bland. We were served pesto in oil. We couldn't enjoy the pesto for the over abundance of olive oil. The sesame crackers served with the pesto was on... More

I always thought the Zen restaurant was a sushi affair, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is a good old American restaurant. We went for lunch with a large group and we had a limited menu of four choices, a burger, trout, Ribs or chicken. Our table had three of the four entrees and all were great.... More

When dining out on a Friday night, one expects a good crowd and perhaps a wait to be seated. But when we got to Zen on Friday, January 17, 2014, there were only three tables occupied with diners. Experience tells me that to beware. Pricy with entrees from $18 to $20, my partner the Fried Rice Stir Fry and found... More

Usually stop by this restaurant on visits to Orange Beach. Dropped by for sushi roll and cocktails on Saturday night. Dining lite, so our group of four sat at a high-top table in the bar area. This place has the best bar tenders. Entertaining and fast on service. Lemon drop was adorned with dry ice. Good selection of vodka, had... More

My husband and I walked from our hotel room looking for a place to eat. Came across Zen, the menu was posted outside on a table. As we are looking it over the hostess comes out and invites us in to get a better look at the menu. It worked, we stayed. Had a very pleasant waitress. I ordered the... More
