Keep on going down the road

We stopped here after the USS Alabama tour and we where starving. We didn't want to wait and drive the extra few miles to other restaurants. We should have kept driving. As mentioned in other posts, this place is tired, the staff is tired and the food mediocre at best. All the portions where... read more

We almost dine and dashed on our drinks because we waited so long. There was just us and another couple in the entire place. Our waitress made some joke when I asked for water with lemons and after her staring at me, I said ice water is fine. Food... well, it was ediable. We were hungry because we had just... More

Okay, we stopped here on the way to the USS Alabama because we were starving. I wish I had read the reviews before we stopped. This restaurant is situated immediately outside of the park so it is the most convenient. The decorum is very worn and dated. The cleanliness when we went at 2:00 on a Saturday, was questionable. The... More

When we arrived we should have left, there was no one around when we walked in around 3:30pm after a few minuets someone finally came out and sat us. We had a waiter that had just come on shift and was awful, he waited forever to take our order and when tea glasses were empty he never acknowledged until we... More

We were traveling through Mobile and happened across The Captain's Table. As it was Saturday night at 6:00 pm, all the other restaurants nearby were packed. My husband and I decided to take a chance because we didn't feel like waiting an hour to get a table elsewhere. We were seated immediately. The restaurant was fairly empty. We weren't sure... More

At my wife's suggestion, we gave this place a try and it wasn't a disappointment. We both got the lunch special offering a main entrée, 2 sides, corn bread, with bread pudding or ice cream for dessert. The blackened salmon was a surprisingly large portion filet with a great salad and loaded baked potato. The bread was just good but... More

The Captains Table restaurant inside John's Word was a quiet location for dinner after the Mobile Ballet on Sunday afternoon. There were only a few patrons. The wait staff person was very good in making fresh coffee for our table, letting us know that there were certain fish items on the menu that were not available during our dinner &... More

Visiting a friend from Mobile and this was his suggestion. Had a more extensive menu than I expected with lots of seafood choices plus steaks. The view from the back room out over the water and the Alabama added to the atmosphere. Very attentive wait staff. Food ok but not special.

Wow, this is place is so bad. The name on the sign said "Captain's table" instead of John Word's. The decor looks as if it came from the 1940s (as do most of the customers) except its not that charming old style, its that crappy old style. Most of the people there were the 70+ crowds so the restaurant had... More
