Description: Caetano D'Costa encountered Chicken Cafreal in the early 80s. At the time, he was working in the kitchen of the Mandovi Hotel in Panjim, under the tutelage of a senior chef, Caridade Alfonso. Caetano D'costa's parents had a tiny tavern in a bylane of Saligao, selling cashew and palm feni distilled by a relative. His mother added homemade snacks to go along with drinks, and the little tavern immediately became a hit with the motorcycle-pilots of the region who operated a local taxi service on their bikes. They brought their customers in increasing numbers. In 1985, the then 24 year old Mr.D'Costa left his job at the Mandovi Hotel and the tavern turned into Florentine. On its menu was Chicken Cafreal. Today, this richly aromatic, long-marinated fried chicken that's smothered in a spicy, coriander- heavy sauce is ubiquitous on restaurant menus across the state and widely known across the world as a signature Goan dish. But in fact, until the 1970's, Chicken Cafreal was unknown in Goa.

If your ever visit GOA, you must eat at Florentine's. Chicken Cafreal without any question was the best Cafreal I ever had. I don't remember what other dish I had at Florentine's but Chicken Cafreal. My friend visited GOA thrice and missed on Chicken Cafreal due to bad timings as Florentine's very strict about working hours. They are open from... More

We were a group of 5-6 friends who visited this place after hearing of this from lots of friends, first thing we noticed was there was no proper parking available and we had to undergo a lot of left right up down before we could finally park. Second is there is a bit causal approach towards the cusomers and they... More

Had heard a lot about this place for its food, but as soon as we entered, the ambience seemed very unimpressive... it looked kinda shady to us, so we did not stay here. no comments regarding the food.

Look for restaurants in saligao on the most popular search engine and 9 out of 10 results will feature flotentines. This place is that famous and it deserves to be. Florentines is very famous for its Chicken Cafreal and believe me it is lip smacking. The taste of the cafreal here is not what it used to be earlier but... More

Florentine is our haunt for the taste bud tickling Chicken cafreal. I have recommended this local joint to most of my friends visiting Goa and they have been anything but disappointed. I've not tried most of their dishes as we go there only for the cafreal. They serve the chicken in half and full portions and it tastes best with... More

Nothing else. Why bother? Every trip, i only for their Chicken Cafreal - Traditional goan food. Eaten as is or with a little pav to soak up the gravy. Totally worth the drive.

We reached the place a little late for lunch, but the food was pretty good considering the price! The menu is predominantly goanese dishes, but they are pretty good!

On our recent trip to Goa, we were determined to eat at all local joints and in our search came upon Florentine’s. Not a very fancy place, Florentine’s is a small restaurant with plastic chairs and wooden tables that give you a typical goan home feel. It is surrounded by goan villas that make the setting very peaceful and homely.... More

I used to adore Florentines for genuine delicious Goan fare. This year I was a little disappointed. The rava fried mussels and prawns are still outstanding. Other items on the menu are more ordinary. But the prices have really been hiked up. Now it's as expensive as the finer dining places. Not sure it's worth it.
