Description: After Seven is regarded as one of the finest restaurants in the world’s favourite holiday destination – Goa! For over 8 years, the restaurant has dedicated itself to excellence in the culinary arts, and has featured in almost every guidebook in the world, including Frommers, Fodors, The Rough Guides and The Lonely Planet. The restaurant has been reviewed favourably in The New York Times, The Tattler, The Sunday Times and has seen many a delighted guest take a photo for his or her own personal collection. Set up by Leo in 1997, After Seven set new standards for restaurants in Goa, when it opened. Today, the restaurant is still the benchmark for cuisine and service. The al-fresco restaurant, set on the lawns of Leo’s house, is situated between Calangute and Candolim, in fact on the border of these two quaint Goan villages. You can watch your meal being cooked in the glass-fronted kitchen and discuss how you liked it afterward, with Leo or the Chef. The menu features the freshest regional seafood, delectable pastas, succulent steaks and a choice of delicious vegetarian items. A three-course meal, including the house special - chargrilled steak cooked to perfection - washed down with scintillating cocktails, costs about £12 a head. There is also an extensive wine list featuring a wide range of carefully selected wines designed to pair effortlessly with the cuisine. Leo will help you choose the right wine, while sharing some anecdote from his travels across the world. He speaks French and Italian fluently, besides English, and is always ready to converse. Begin with the best Camembert soufflé, east of France, and move on to the delectable seafood platter, or the chargrilled filet steak with bearnaise sauce, both marvelous. Finally, whether you have room for dessert or not, we must recommend the chocolate mousse. Until two years ago, the restaurant was known as the After Eight Restaurant. The large chocolate company, fearing that the restaurant’s patrons would confuse the name of the restaurant with the chocolates they produce, requested Leo to change the restaurant’s name. As the bard once said, “What’s in a name?...” And so, the restaurant became After Seven, but that’s a tale for another day!Do be aware that you might be guided to other restaurants by taxi drivers on a commission. Be firm and insist on going to After Seven or simply call Leo to sort it all out.
